I felt guilty just thinking about this....

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

The game looks appealing to me for the high-quality action it promises but I've never wanted metroid to be story-driven, on the contrary the minimal importance of the story in metroid is one of the things I like the most about it. I've got the feeling that I won't like the story or I will simply don't care about it, and this will be a flaw of the game for me, not a plus.

I'll wait to play the game, but from what I've seen, (many trailers) the story doesn't seem appealing at all and the samus character seem to me too already stereotyped... I can't still describe it as sexist but since we are talking about the team who made titty bouncers like dead or alive and DOA extreme beach volley it may also be true.

Abbie Heppe makes an error in interpreting Samus' actions

Samus' actions are as described are not atypical of someone who is trying to prove themselves to a mentor from the past. For example, it is not uncommon for athletes to seek approval from their former coaches. Nor is it uncommon for a former student to try to impress their major professor years (or decades) later. That is what appears to be happening here. The fact that Samus is female and her former commander appears to be immaterial. However, the reviewer chose to see things only in a gender-based way, which seems to be much more sexist than what may actually be happening.

(For the record, I read the G4 review but did not watch the video. Also, I am not as versed as the reviewer or many of the responders in the story of Samus. And I have not played the game yet (obviously).

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

She has this condition... The condition of sexist females trying too hard to fight for a cause her grandmother already won. Come on! That's the kind of review you would expect from this woman.

First of all, I really doubt her criteria to judge what is sexist and what is not.

Second of all, If Metroid: Other M was sexist, then what happens to GTA franchise? What was the score for those violent and sexist games, huh?

Almost every single franchise and every single rpg out there could be accused of being sexist, following her criteria.

EDIT:

Isn't this the one who said she didn't like Super Mario Galaxy 2 because it was TOO CARTOONY?

... There are plenty of games which could be called sexist, but not Metroid. Samus is a hot girl, but isn't as depraved as some other femaled characters around there.

I must say that her review was not done professionally at all. It seemed more like a review from a whiny brat that you would see on YouTube. I understand that everyone has their opinions, but she could have a least presented them in a more proper manner.

Well, many of you may understand her complaints once you've actually played the damn game. ¬_¬

Offhand, it sounds like Samus was written out of character for Other M in an attempt to make the character more in depth.

Samus worked well enough as a Woman of Mystery/Intergalactic Bad Ass; no need to rewrite a working formula.

But a 40% rating is just ridiculous. Whatever personal issues a reviewer might have with whatever aspects of a game, 40% means a game is for all intents and purposes, broken. Severe game-breaking issues that make it difficult at best to play through (due to being an awful game, not a challenging one).

Lot of nagging complaints in the review bordering on petty; actually kind of reminds me of quite a few users on VGC.

That said, I already ordered the game, am looking forward to playing it, and if it's good, will be the first Metroid game I finish since Super Metroid (didn't particularly enjoy any of the Metroid Prime games). Fitting since Other M directly follows Super Metroid chronologically. And if it's really good, I may even go back and finish Metroid Fusion.

that was Morgan Webb, another of G4's outstanding reviewers...
