Forums - Sales Discussion - SONY: Move will sell like the EYETOY

Move to follow EyeToy with word-of-mouth success

............Speaking on the future success of Move, Senior VP of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Ray Maguire said: “Exactly as with EyeToy in the PS2 days, it's a product that needs to be sampled. You need to get your hands on it. You need to understand it. You need to try it.” The SECC bigwig added: “Am I expecting a massive day one? Not particularly.”

Further discussing the expected upward trend of Move sales, Maguire once again relied on past experiences with Sony’s old EyeToy peripheral stating: "It went on to be massively successful. As people saw the value when they tried it they told their friends. Their friends bought it. They told their friends. Word of mouth grew the marketplace. That's what I expect from Move as well.”............

Pretty much what I've been thinking. I still don't thing its lifetime sales will be more than 10% of the PS3 userbase and it definitely won't push new consoles.

Same goes with Kinect.

These types of devices need to be implemented as core components in a new console, not (expensive) addons to existing ones.

So how much Eyetoys were sold?

Duplicate thread

Misleading title

too much spin and bait from the anti sony force

What they are saying is Move will be a success in the long run....that is all

1. Because it has already been posted.

2. The story does not say it will sell like EyeToy, just that it shares a driver for sales in word of mouth.

They didn't say it will sell like the EyeToy. They said it would start out of the gates and gradually take off, "similar to the EyeToy". "Word of mouth", "people need to try it", that sort of thing.

aka...like the eyetoy

No, the title makes it seem like the argument is it will sell as many units as the EyeToy, which isn't great, not that it will share simularities in how it will sell to consumers. Two different ideas and not directly related.
