Forums - General Discussion - More anti muslim behavior (this is getting out of hand)

Drunk people doing stupid shit, are we supposed to be surprised?

Hopefully they will both be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.  However, calling what stupid ass drunk people do "hate" crimes is just silly.  I have done stupid shit when drunk that I would never do (or even think about doing) sober.

This mess is getting blown out of proportion, tho that is the point of the media in the US...so I should not be surprised.

BTW, in your example about the cabbie that was attacked...

The cabbie was opposed to the building of the mosque near ground zero and the attacker was part of a group that was supporting the building of the mosque.

Truth is stranger then fiction.

Oh, and when you put some drunk idiot urinating in a mosque and shooting his racist mouth off on the same level as those who kill innocent people by blowing themselves up and flying planes into buildings,  then the world really has lost it's mind.

Did the people in the california mosque destroy the towesr? no they didn't. Read the news buddy the cabbie stated that the mosque did not come up in the convo, he said the guy attacked him after he learned he was muslim.

I never said they did.  You were the one putting the drunk urinating guy on the same level as the terrorists who caused 911.  You were the one who said "The only terrorists that I see are non muslims"

Read the news buddy the cabbie stated that the mosque did not come up in the convo, he said the guy attacked him after he learned he was muslim.

That was my point!  The artical tried to use this story as if the attacker was against the mosque and attacked the muslim cabbie because of it.  But that was not the truth.

Its too bad all the great things done in the name of any religion go unnoticed. And Im saying this as someone who despises the self righteous idea of a blind faith that rewards "believers" when I've been told if i dont accept their "god" i go teo hell rather than be judged based on how i treated my fellow man....Still, great things are done in the name of religion but no one cares. ISlam, Christianty, Buddhism it doesnt matter

The crazies are more interesting, thats why everyone loves reality TV in this country (by everyone i mean ratings)

Socially this country is fucked beyond belief. And this is where it shows.

When you are disbturbing innocent people in their place of worship your just as low garbage is garbage. Lets be real here, we both know it has something to do with what is going on...he walked into a mosque and started calling them terrorists.

Where does the article state that? It just says that he stabbed the cabby after asking if he was muslim, the stabber works for a group that supports the mosque building. Are you looking at the other post I made? More info has been added since then I just haven't gotten around to posting it...http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38861763/ns/us_news-crime_and_courts/

Where? It says that the stabber worked

Haters gonna hate.

I hope that community centre goes up. There are few things as satisfying as seeing a campaign of intimidation fail.

Just curious... how would you feel about a giant evangical church being built right next to an abortion clinic that was burned to the ground?

It had nothing to do with an "campaign of intimidiation."   It's a campaign of common sense.

They have the right to build a 15 story community center, but it's a douchebag thing to do.  You literally can't miss the new building where the WTC subway is.   It'd be the equivlent of building a church right next to like, every abortion clinic every bombed, when you consider the size of it... and the fact that people want to pay their respects there.

As for this event... I would be surprised if this didn't happen every week... and also in churches and synagouges.

I mean drunk people acting dumb and urinating on stuff?

You keep using that example and I see nothing wrong with it. I'm atheist so I'm opposed to a church (or mosque/synagogue) being built anywhere. But unless you can prove that the people building the church bombed the abortion clinic you are just punishing a group of people because they have an association to a couple of extreme criminals.

I honestly don't know why the debate continues to rage because there are no plans to stop the community center from being built and it is privately owned.

It comes down to this simple question: Is it okay for a church or other religious temple to be built 2 blocks away from Ground Zero?  If yes, then a mosque is okay too.

OT: Yeah the media is totally blowing things out of proportion and will only cause things to get worse.

And by building it... you are punishing the people who's family died in that clinic because you wanted a church right there.

This has NOTHING to do with legal rights.

It has everythign to do with responsibility.

It's extremely irresponsible and insensitive for them to build the mosque there... and people are upset because of it.  Not a big surprise.

They have just as much legal right as any other religion.  The point is... it's insensitve.

That's the problem with this country, people are to damn sensitive. Did you know that some people who had family die on 9/11 are for this mosque?

Ever here of the term "exception to the rule."

You can find women who are against women having equal rights.  Doesn't lend it anymore credence.

Upsetting people needlessly because a couple other people from the same group is ok with it doesn't make it right.

Yeah well these are people who understand the difference between the scum that killed family and friends from the ones the want a mosque. Opinions arelike assholes everyone has one, fact remains that this thing will be built and short of extreme measures it's not gonna be stopped. Life is way to short to be bitching and moaning over something like this, it's being built and people need to deal with it. Some countries don't want out military in their country  (japan) but we aren't leaving are we?

So... if something you disagree with iis happening you don't agree with... you should shut up.

Really?  That's your opinion.

So... if someone gets on the radio and says something really racist and insulting... since he legally can say it... and nothing can stop him from saying it.... the response should be... nothing at all.   No sponsor boycotts... no protests.

Or heck... everyone who protested the war in iraq or said a bad thing about it.   They all should of just shut up then, huh?  Afterall it was happening anyway.

Genocides, slavery, bigotry, this is all going to happen, so why talk bad about it?  Why ever have a contrarian opinion.  Whatever is done first must be right.

You can't really mean that.

No one is getting enslaved, the only ones getting the bigotry are the one building the mosque. Rush Limbaugh says some of the most offensive things, he has been protested but he is still here. Most americans were for the war before they were against it but it didn't end when they started complaining (we jsut got another one lol). Everyone has the right to voice their feelings I have no objection to that, it's just that the odds are always stacked against us and sometimes I feel this "freedom of speech" is just something to make us feel that we have power. I see your point and understand that people may be hurt over this but sometimes there is nothing we can do. To stop this would conflict with everything that makes this country great, freedom is a two way street. If I came off as hostile I apologize...there are more pressing things in the world and I just don't understand why so much energy is going into this.
