Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony: "New IP, not rival battle, is our barometer of success"

I Swear I am always floored by how much Heavy Rain has sold... I was one of those ppl who thought 300k was pushing it.

SOny imho brought out the best new IP's this gen and they are not done yet either...

Horizon and Sorcery is my next most anticipated new IPs from them and I'm sure I'm forgetting few

ps: Forgot the Journey as well ;)

Good mindset to have as well and from the current and upcoming line up of games they have, it's the right mindset to have too

Same for me. Awesome new IPs imo were Uncharted, Heavy Rain, inFamous and LittleBigPlanet, and I'm definitly already hyped for Horizon although we don't know anything yet (I believe in Cage!).

2012 - Top 3 [so far]

                                                                             #1                                       #2                                      #3

Sony is the best at new IP's by a mile over Nintendo and MS. That's one of the things I like best about Sony.

Sony really takes care of their own IPs, and they have the most variety in the market to suit everyone's taste, raging from casual to hardcore players, games from a big spectrum of genres and anybody can find something to enjoy. Which other company invest as much in stuff like FPS (Killzone, MAG, Resistance, EA deal$ with Medal of Honor), then they push studios that literally make gaming movie experiences like Uncharted and God of War, and they also strive to make the mother of all racing franchises in Gran Turismo (besides other amazing racers like Motorstorm and WipEout). Do they forget about the casuals? they invest in Singstar, Little Big Planet, R&C. They make the best baseball game called MLB the Show. They support studios and projects that NOBODY would like Heavy Rain and Demon's Souls, FLOWER and tons of other stuff that find its home in the PSN. And if you think they are going to half-ass the Move Lineup? Expect the same level of polish and dedication, 'cause that's what they do with all their IPs, even if some may not be smash-hits overnight Sony never stops.

i'd want them to give love to older IPs first , i hope they don't ignore the old IPs

Although I agree with you, it's best to state "IMO" because if there is anything I have learned in VGC is that nothing in the world tops Nintendo. For me though I can no longer play a Mario game, nor pokemon, nor Zelda, nor the various party games (other M i look forward to thoug). I think Sony has gambled and considering how horrible they did with the PS3 launch (damn you Kutaragi) they have managed to improve upon many things. Uncharted series surprised me, so did LBP and its community. I know Zucas will sooner or later appear to criticize LBP but heres my anticipation to his hatred for create/share type games: I have not created the first level in LBP but playing the tons of existing ones from other people has been soooooo much fun, and thankfully a platformer does not need any relevant or even halfway decent plot (look at main Mario titles). Also I've had tons of fun with Heavy Rain, Flower, Fat Princess, etc,

Make games, not war (that goes for ridiculous fanboys)

I may be the next Maelstorm or not, you be the judge http://videogamesgrow.blogspot.com/  hopefully I can be more of an asset than a fanboy to VGC hehe.

I Love Sony new ip´s this gen but my favourites are Mass Effect and Gears of War but in 3rd comes Uncharted and LBP :)

he is talking about new IPs , the only new ip i can think of by Nintendo is the "Wii (something)" games

nintendo was never the one with new IPs but thats the charm of them actually, not the weakness.

Edit : i also forgot about Nintendogs and Professor Layton

As I said in other threads, to me Sony has become the same as Nintendo when it comes to game quality.

I will always enjoy a Zelda, a Mario and a Metroid, but what I like about Sony is that they are creating new IPs regularly, keeping things fresh for us gamers.

Flower, Uncharted, Heavy Rain, Little Big Planet, inFamous, Demon's Souls, MAG, Resistence, Fat Princess and many others I probably forget are all new IPs created for the PS3.

And looking in the future, there is The Last Guardian, Journey, Horizon, Sorcery, and probably many I'm forgetting.

Honestly, Sony is creating more new original IPs than its competitors.  Some of them IPs don't perform that well, but a majority of them succeed and are of really high quality.  And I'm not counting the flow of already existing IPs that they give to fans, like Ratchet and Clank, God of War, Gran Turismo, MLB the Show, WipEout, etc...  All of which are of really high quality too.

This gen might not be the best for Sony when it comes to sales compared to its competitors, but they are still committed to provide us gamers with a nice constant flow of new experiences.  It's a good generation to be onboard Sony's train, indeed.
