Forums - General Discussion - The great obesity debate.

This OP speaks the truth as obesity effects the poor more than the rich. People can be stuck barely making any money and all the can afford to fill up their kids is a big, fatty, cheap burger. Vegtables are over priced and people have to feed their family. Poor neighbooods don't have organic market places after all theres more profit to be made in neghborhoods were people actually have the money to buy a healthy diet. Basically we segragate nutrition by making it expensive to eat healthy and by not opening health food stors in poor areas. This makes me sick.

Every time I go to walmart its a wake up call because its a market of the obese. Lets fatten up the herd and make billions doing it.

People lack dispipline and self control. I eat whatever I want but, I couple it with exericise. If I stopped running I would eat less and I know that a balance is cruciual. It isn't to do with the prices of food, if prices were higher people would still eat the same food. Why cripple the wider population of more competitive food prices just to please (even though it would annoy) the cheeseburger lover population.

Interesting fact for you, in Britian hundreds years ago, being fat was a sign of wealth

i have an obese friend who is discriminated a lot for being fat. he keeps on eating and eating, he cares about his health but he doesnt do anything to improve it, its sad.

when i went to disney land in orlando i so an obese women on a scooter, she was so fat she coudnt walk. and guess what she was doing? she was eating a shitload of ice cream from mcdonalds!!! does she think that nature did that to her.

i eat a lot, im never full,i wake up i go and eat chinese crackers, then i go and i eat tons of milk bread. lets just say that i have 7 snacks per day, 3 mini snacks and 3 main eating times lucn, pre lucn, and dinner. the best time of the day for me is when i eat. its so fun, eating is a hobby for me. but im not fat, i do lots of sports, tennis, swimming, football(soccer). and i have my own personal gym at home. i actually do only abs. but im in very good shape. people can eat alot and still be healthy.

Being in 3rd place never felt so good

Spoiled, lazy, inconsiderate, smug, ungrateful and unapreciative are the people born in America. If your fat, you probably deserve it. Of course I'm just generalizing but it's the truth America, you'll complain and ravage about not having your bottled fucking water while another has to drink their own tears. The reason America is considered so fat? Because they put convenience before ones self. As far as society goes, America is a slum.

And when I somewhat mean NA too.

There are four reasons for the obesity epidemic:

1) High Fructose Corn Syrup.  They put it in everything, and it makes you fat.  Countries that give a fuck try to limit the amount of it they produce or import.  America goes "oh no you can't stop people from selling obesity causing cancerous poison, that would be un-American!  Let anybody sell any poison to anybody, and let them lie about it!  FREEDOM!"  Right now the Coca-Cola company is getting sued because they falsely advertise Vitamin Water as a healthy alternative to Coke, but it has the exact same amount of calories and high fructose corn syrup.  It's basically water-flavored Coke poison bullshit.  But they can get away with it, due to point #2.

2) People are lazy and willfully ignorant of what they put into their bodies.  If you try to tell them it's bad for them they say "get out of my way I'm addicted to genetically modified cancerous fructose-injected meat and bread and cheese and soda RAGHAHGAG!!!"  I have met people who eat meat with every single meal, and refuse to eat salads because... "salads are for girls and fags."

3) Bovine Growth Hormone.  Monsanto and other companies put this shit into cows to make them bigger and fatter so they can produce more milk.  Then they make more milk faster, so they can make more money, which is the American way.  However, then the milk has a fucking GROWTH HORMONE in it.  So when kids drink it they grow fatter and faster.  That's why we have girls getting huge and fat, having giant tits by the age of 10, and some menstruating at the age of 7 or 8.  They're not mature enough to understand any of this, but their PARENTS DON'T GIVE A FUCK.  People just go "that's weird, I didn't get my first period until I was 12 or 13, but all my kids get their first period at 8 or 9, and I have no idea why.  Huh, whatever, what's on TV?"

4) The film Krush Groove came out in 1985, featuring this music video:

1) B.S ... Excess calories lead to obesity, not any ingredient or component of a food product. The connection between weight gain an high fructose corn syrup can be (mostly) explained by the excessive consumption of calories in beverages that was rare for people before. Today between lattes and pop an individual can drink 50% of their daily recommended intake of calories from beverages; even if these were made with raw sugar there would still be a obesity epidemic

2) Insensitive but otherwise accurate

3) B.S. ... Excess calories lead to obesity, not any ingredient or component of a food product. The relationship between hormones and obesity can be explained because people regularly eat far more meat than they need to (or is healthy for them). For me, a 6ft tall 190lbs man the typical daily intake of meat/protein is 200g and costs (less than) $2, yet people are often eating 500g cuts of chicken/pork/beef a couple of times a day; and are eating 5 to 10 times their daily recommended intake of meat.

I suspect that allowing hormones in livestock breeding could have a role. Eating too much and unhealthy obviously has a the biggest role, but elsewhere in the world it's very rare to see so many people EXTREMELY obese.

Eating healthy costing more is a myth.

It's not because of money that people don't eat healthy.  It's time.

Well and lifestyle.

When you spend 40 hours a week working a shitty job, the last thing you wanna do is spend another 5-10 hours cooking on top of your other chores.

As for doing something about it... the simple answer is.  We shouldn't.

People should have the right to get as fat as they want too... it's their lives they're screwing with.  The government shouldn't try and coax them into being healthy, outside of informing them of the problems with their bad lifestyles and possibly removing laws that restrict what someone can do with weight based issues.

Afterall if you can't charge someone based on weight on a plane, or for healthcare, or even pay the same to people who live unhealthy (vs it being genetic) in welfare plans... then it's costing everybody instead of just the person who is that weight like it should.

Of course it's easy for me to say, considering i don't live as healthy as i should, but still stay thin.

Either way... nobody should be stopped from making any bad health or life choices they want to make, but at the same time, said effects should lay mostly if not completely on them.

I blame the prices for America's obesity.

You go to a McDonald's and the salad is like five bucks. For much less you can get a cheeseburger with fries. Not only that, Coca Cola is cheaper than bottled water!

Couple it with genetics favoring stocky people and you see most things are definitely not helping it.

In MCDONALDS.

In a regular Supermarkets hamburgers are WAY more expensive then salads... and Soda is 2-3 times as expensive as Water.

I have a friend is morbidly obese.  She doesn't even seem to care either.  She drinks a plentiful amount of soda as far as I know.

My mom's boyfriend can eat a lot of pizza and stay thin.  This pretty much proves that exercising will keep you healthy no matter what food's you eat.

People should really try to control their own eating habits.  In most cases, I think that being mean to anyone is rude no matter what.  However, in this case, I think obese people need to be told to lose weight.

They just eat too much. Of course there is the quality of the food, the hormones etc, but bottomline is they just eat too fucking much and they don't move enough to burn it. A lot also are presented huge portions and wolf them down without even stopping for a minute to see whether they are still hungry. Or keep a bowl of sweets to munch on and pop drinks while burning the bare minimum.

I spent more than 5 years as a student with sole cooking utensils being baking paper and a frying pan, bought food at Aldi (which is dirt cheap so probably not the greatest stuff), basically survived on pizza (deep-frozen), canned fish, baked chips and sandwiches and some fruits/veggies (but wasn't poor enough not to be able to afford enough food and stay hungry). And a lot of other people in dorms did pretty much the same, so it's not like my genes are special that way.  Most of the people I lived around were normal weight and stayed like that.

Europe is getting fatter too though (UK is already pretty bad, if not extremely bad). Even the French are getting fatter.

I'm pretty neutral on actually punishing those eating habits. I've been pretty open about disliking them aesthetically though, e.g. when it comes to dating, then it's a no-no (yeah, I'm pretty shallow, one could have a great personality, but jeez, fat is cold and icky, so it's never moving into the physical).
