Forums - Gaming Discussion - Wii has half the amount of games coming as PS3/360

psrock said: The Wii is the worst market leader I have ever seen. The lack of support and better games going to other consoles is just troubling. The only reason this console is still relevent is because of its amazing first party games. But, it's crazy how even in japan it gets less support than most of the other consoles. Hopefully  the next Wii gets the support it deserve.

EDIT: seems like the quoting failed. Anyways, as I said before it got destroyed...

Considering how the generation started (no 3rd party support due to every analyst saying the Wii was going to epicly fail) I'm not shocked the trend has continued till now. Now, I had hoped and even said that 3rd party support would pick up, it hasn't (significantly).

Now, from a business perspective, I can't figure out why some of the larger multiplatform companies haven't put significant support into the Wii. Putting only crap games on the market leader is a waste of resources especially when just one 3rd party could move in with significant support and pick up all the sales that Nintendo doesn't take which would be like being the only legitimate publisher on the PS3 or X360.

This is the way I see it. They put the games onto Wii that are proven money earners. Genre's that Nintendo already made big.

Games like Carnival Games. Just Dance. _____ Party. Random Sports game using Wii Remote. These games bring them profit. Nintendo made Wii Sports. It was a phenomenon... Thus the 3rd parties followed suit. The same goes for Mario Party. Wii Fit. Etc. The Wii is targeted primarily at a certain market. That market isn't one that buys up 5 Million copies of a game where you cut people in half with a chainsaw. The only big selling game i haven't seen them copy for some reason is Twilight Princess.

They put games on the HD consoles that are proven to also be money earners.

Games like Call of Duty. Left 4 Dead. Mass Effect. Gears of War. Fallout. These games are generally the big sellers on the HD consoles. Sony and Microsoft both come out of the blocks with "hardcore" games. Games that sell to Teenage males wanting to kill everything in sight or burn down some village or something. These games came from Sony/Microsoft releasing games like Resistance. Halo. Uncharted. Even Gears itself. Microsoft spent the money on Publishing big games to bring them to the 360. Why doesn't Nintendo spend some of that easy money they get every week and entice developers to the Wii with big new franchises and ideas?

Now that Move and Kinect are releasing, we are seeing the same kinds of games being released for the specific controller options. _____ Party or something dance. It's just the way the demographics work IMO. If you want the big core games on Wii, get Nintendo to advertise the Wii to the core audience with games that appeal to that audience. Don't get them advertising Mario Kart Wii for 3 years running. Get them throwing money at developers saying "Hey! We hold 50% of the market and we want you on our console! You need help reaching our audience... Then let US help YOU!"

Also. The developers do put significant support into the Wii. It's just not the "significant support" that people like you, me and whoever else is a regular on gaming forums wants.

The Iphone gets games the Wii doesn't, there's more to this than just decision made in 2005, it's been 4 years, you can't tell me it's because they thought the PS3 was going to be the leader, that worked in 2007.

It's because the Wii's casual market is easy to develop cheap shovelware for. 3rd parties won't put extra resoruces into making games for the Wii when putting out a game like Carnival Games rakes in massive amounts of dough.

The Wii is a victim of its own success in the casual market, and we're definitely not gonna see good 3rd party support for it, and most likely not for its successor.

After seeing the lackluster performance of Battle Road Victory I'm not sure how big of a success Inazuma 11 will be. At the moment the holidays in Japan seem to favor the Wii but if Sony or a third party drop a bomb at TGS that's going to change rather quickly. And depending on how may GT5 bundles there are, I'm assuming it's going to be like the Lightning Bundle around 200k, Sony basically has November in the bag. And Trestres, you're missing RDR from that list. Not sure what category it should go in though. I think it has a pretty good shot at over 100k, maybe even over 200k.

DQBRV is actually doing a swell if not better than the PS2 iterations. nothing bad abt its numbers, only expectations were higher

i bought a black wii bundle a few months ago, didn't buy a single game, sampled some top 3rd party and 1st party games, and moved on after a couple weeks

i don't know why people think that the wii is so great for shooters because it was horribly inaccurate and tiring to be honest

aside from the huge catalog of shovel-ware, there aren't many deep games and it was only a matter of time before people moved on to other things game related or not

The Wii owners are like Ewoks. The Evil empire will tolerate them but turn their forest moon into a secret base.

Oh, the Wii is great for shooters. You'd be insane to try and deny that.

That's alright. I'm already looking forward to a plethora of fun looking games coming out for the Wii this holiday season. I'm definitely going to have to cut a few games off the ol' list for now, like Batman: The Brave and the Bold (looks like a great beat 'em up, developed by Way Forward, and is Batman themed.) and The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest (big LotR fan here, and it's developed by HeadStrong Games, who's a solid developer).

This leaves all the consoles in an interesting predicament, seeing as Wii sells more software than PS3 or 360. Will less Wii games this holiday season let more Wii games thrive? Will more games on PS3/360 make some fall of the radar for consumers? It's all leading up to one interesting holiday season.

EDIT: Well, *looks down at the actual research* so much for anything said in this thread. : Well that's not true, this holiday will still be interesting to watch.

Wii doesn't need 100 titles, it just needs Mario,Zelda and Wii series to sell same software.

Take my love, take my land..

We need to remember this console(wii) was supposed to be a last place type of console, never did publishers think differently. It's amazing to this day that it's a market leader still considering how consistently it has been ignored.

It also amazes that we're normally grouping rivals PS3 & 360 as a single platform just to make the Wii look worse. I think that needs to be properly arranged so that Wii and DS are also grouped together as a single platform, I believe it makes almost as much sense if not more.

Are we actually going to brag and argue about the shovelware shift from Wii to HD?

Wii already has more games and more backwards compatibility than any other console out right now, so a huge shift in the 5th year of a generation won't make much of a difference, especially if it's all party games.  Everybody's already figured out what their favorite party games are over the past 4-5 years.

The other systems are only getting huge chunks of new games because they're launching Kinect and Move, with 10 Just Dance clones, 10 Wii Fit clones, and 10 Wii Sports clones each.  For comparison, Wii Motion launched with one Wii Sports clone, two tennis games, and a golf game.  The best game got to rise to the top, and it's sold over 15 million by now.  If you launch a controller with tons and tons of games that are barely different from each other, you're not going to get a huge breakout success like that.  Except maybe Dance Central... but it's still only 2 players instead of 4.

Well, I don't know if it's me, but is really Nintendo caring about the other two starting to outselling the Wii?  I don't think so. I think they are fine the way it's selling right now, and they are making enormous efforts to bring third party. They know they can't with the Wii anymore, but you saw the 3DS... They worked for that console, a lot. They worked for 3rd party games. They got them. I think they'll just do fine in the future with the next console.
