But it was only last year when people said the 360 wa dooooomzed, because the PS3 has reached it's magical price point at $299...now it still needs more?  Hmmm...maybe PS3 should just try to be the best 3rd spot hitter it can be...like those old Army commercials.

Well first off Sony isn't in any real trouble, they are finally making a small profit on each console sold and they have big games right around the corner (GT5 is the best example), Microsoft is just hot after releasing the redesigned 360.

But some things Sony could do to help improve sales?

- Ramp up advertising again, I haven't seen a Sony commercial in a long time, but I've seen plenty for the new 360.

- GT5 bundle in all regions and heavily advertise the game.

- Make a deal with EA for worthwhile PS3 exclusive content for their upcoming games including Medal of Honor, NFS Hot Pursuit and whatever else EA has (since 360 has a deal with Activision)

- Get exclusive content for Bungie's next game (since it should be multiplat) and also for Respawn Entertainment's (the former Infinity Ward guys) first game.

- Speed up the production process on their big games like Last Guardian, SOCOM 4, Agent, etc.

Doing all that would sure help get Sony back on track. I don't think a price drop is realistic till at the very earliest Fall 2011 or even Winter/Spring 2012.

advertise, aside from that madden commercial I haven't seen crap about the ps3. If they do cut the price by 50 bucks, expext all hell to break loose.

Yeah a $50 price cut would be beastly for sales, but would cost them a ton of money. They're only making a few bucks on each console sale so dropping the price by $50 would mean they're losing over $40 on each sale.

Couldn't they make up the losses with 1st party sw and psn plus? Btw does anyone have the numbers on plus?

They were making a small profit in March at $299, 6 months later, in September, they could easily at least break even at $249 (tuning of the shrunk production process that allowed the last major cost reduction, normal drop in ICs, HDDs and optical drives costs, BTW old 120GB HDD they used had a higher cost than newer 160GB ones they are adopting for entry level, etc).

Another redesign, price drop and/or real bundles with games people would actually want and not throw away titles that nobody cares about anymore.  Bundle Uncharted 2 and God of War 3 with the $399 and give LBP GotY Edition and some other hq Teen or lower game from 2010 or late 2009 away with the $299 console.

The 360 was beating them until the PS3 Slim and $100 off the price tag, then the PS3 took the lead.  The 360 introduced a slim and now they've taken it back from the PS3.

It needs a Final Fantasy VII remake! KH3, and Z.O.E 3

anyone one of those will be a huge seller for console and game.
