Forums - Gaming Discussion - Can the Playstation Eye already do what Xbox Kinect?

Do yourself a favor and have a look at the fitness game by ubisoft and show everybody a eyetoy game as impressive as that.

lol you thought that was in real time?

its funny how both videos of different "Demos" are exactly the same word by word.

but even if that is real , i don't see it as mind blowing, it would be great to have a game that going to be used for you know.. games! , where you move around in a world , not just sit there staring at yourself exactly like the Eyetoy was.

I'm sure kinect is the better camera, but not by a huge extent. Not that it matters because both suffer from lackluster software.

But we can hope the Kinect offers games that don't just involve you staring at yourself and touching/avoiding objects.

Oh, you mean like ALL the games shown for the Kinect? Once they get a "core" game on Kinect, you let me know.

No, I mean almost everything we've seen on the Eyetoy. You're literally looking at yourself in those.

If you want a core game stick to the joystick. The Kinect is intended to breath new life into casual games. I think the marketing would have gotten that through your head.

and Dance Central isn't also about staring at yourself ..... ?

i'm talking about Kenict Adventure and all the others shown so far, they're all very basic, you stare at yourself and do what you have to do.

No, you aren't staring at yourself. In Kinect Adventures you're actually controlling a 3D model with your body. People point at Kung Fu Live, but that's not a 3D model. It just cuts out your body and makes a 2D image out of it. That's completely different.

Dance Central actually tracks the movement of your whole body. While dance games on the Eyetoy just placed objects around the screen and you touch them with your hands.

The article claims the PS Eye can do everything the Kinect does. But where is the proof of this? Having the same genres doesn't mean the PS Eye has the same capabilities.

you said it yourself actually, there is that Skateboarding game on Eyetoy that does that, its Antigrav, and you said that ,but nooo that doesn't count right?

Whats the difference between looking at yourself and looking at an avatar that does what you are doing if you can't use him to move around the world, Eyetoy proved that this gimmick is lame and that people want to actually move around the virtual world not just sitting ... well actually Standing infront of the tv waving their arms around.

Anyone ever notice this? It is from the July issue of Qore.

Watch this video at the 4:50 mark. She is playing Tennis with Move and hits the ball with the Move, then without even realizing she moves her hand (the one without the Move) and it hits the ball again.

So I am guessing the eye can do games like that without the need for the Move, just like how the Move can be used for things like the XMB, BD movie rewind/fast forward, web browsing, etc... without needing to hook up the Eye.

I just found it pretty cool. Shows what the PSEye is capable of.

I never used Your Shape as an example because its not very impressive. I'd be surprised if the PS Eye isn't capable of that.

But like I mentioned in our other discussion. Do you have any examples of PS Eye games doing the exact same thing as games like Kinect Adventures, Dance Central, and Joy Ride?

You just keep bouncing around that.

Yeah, I mentioned that game and it was incredibly limited. You can't play all driving games like a surfboard.

Once again, you just mock what the Kinect does. But you have no proof the PS Eye has the same capabilities.

Antigrav was on the EyeToy which was a less advanced version of the PSEye. Remember this. The game came out what, 5-6 years ago?

I am positive that Kinect can do stuff that the PSEye can't do, but you will be very hard pressed to come in here and prove it, especially with them saying that Dance Central can be ported to PS3 and Your Shape being on the Wii with a camera most likely less advanced than the PSEye.

Also, even if PSEye can't do JoyRide, which we are not sure what so ever if it can or can not, it is entirely possible with the Move and has been done with Mario Kart, only with something in your hands that also offers physical feedback and the option to manually accelerate, which to me is a huge flaw for Kinect.

Not trying to knock it, just so you know. I am just stating the facts given at the moment.

hey pass some over here.

The problem I am having with MS right now is that they are not really showing us anything other than Dance Central that seperates their peripheral from the ones offered by Nintendo, Sony or the camera from Ubisoft. They show us fitness games, which are available everywhere. They show us sports games, which are available everywhere. They show us Kinect Adventures which going by video and previews is said to not really be 1:1 and requires you to perform actions like jumping before reaching the areas that would require you to jump.

Also I am very curious on this and would appreciate if someone could give a response.

Is there a Kinect game shown that requires the player to move back and forth towards the screen, showing what the camera is capable of? If not, then Kung Fu... whatever it's called shows us just as much as the current Kinect lineup has.
