Forums - Gaming Discussion - VP of MS Interview, no multi player for GTA4 on PS3?

I believe there is an apostrophe missing somewhere in his statement. While it might seem implausible to the Sony fans on these forums. There could be a valid argument that the multi player aspect might be exclusive to the 360 version. Time to dust off the tinfoil hat.

There are a myriad of reasons why the 360 might get the definitive version of the game. Perhaps the delay due to PS3 development gave the 360 team more time to add in additional features. While the PS3 version might be more visually stunning. The 360 version might support more features.

Which brings a question to mind what if developing the title for the PS3 has had an unintended side effect. The developer might have ratcheted up the graphic prowess on the PS3 version, but the price might be that the game for the PS3 could never be multiplayer without serious quality issues. Thats ignoring the architecture differences of the machines. While the PS3 is hardly an online machine. The 360 was built explicitly around the premise.

Another consideration is the exclusive 360 content for download. Had we learned anything from this past year about live its this. The best downloadable content is the one that accentuates a multiplayer experience. This perhaps was the intent of the downloaded content in the first place, and Microsoft having secured it for a hefty price might be all the explanation we need. Perhaps what Microsoft really bought was multiplayer for their GTA title.

Honestly there are many good reasons it might happen not least of which being that the 360 is the dedicated online machine. Which would make the greatest use of such feature.

"""As for broken consoles... Microsoft has bucked up a billion plus to make good... Name another company that has put a billion into fixing a problem that is potentially with 14 million consumers world-wide?"" - Sony spent a ton with the disk read error drama
==> name another compagny having a such big money power ? Sony
==> name another compagny having a 33% failure rate on an electronic product - Sony had a lawsuit against them for the infamous disk read error

Plus, there is one game, formely a PS3 exclusive, that has online for the 360 and not for the PS3 - Virtua Fighter 5. DLCs, we all knew that ... but multiplayer? That would truly be the ultimate experience on the 360!

Do I have to remind you that Sony had to settle a class action lawsuit over the PS2's DRE issues. They didn't pony up the bucks to remedy the issue until they were sued. That isn't excusing MS for faulty hardware design but it amazes me that Sony fans of all people would try to act high and might about Sony hardware quality when it has been awful up until the PS3. The PS1 had over heating and DRE issues. The PS2 had DRE issues. The PSP had dead pixel and faulty button issues. Sony has a history of not addressing design flaws until their is a major lawsuit or the threat of one.

I agree , the GTA4 for the Xbox360 may be better than the PS3 one.
Also remember, the PS3 developpement was delayed 'from 2 weeks" and all the in game footage were from the Xbox360 version (even if it was technically flawed, clipping+frame rate). No PS3 footage was shown.

So you finally admitted it. Thanks!

if its true then the 50miilion rumor is true

That isn't a rumor. There are actual company documents from Take Two that show $25 million for the two DLC updates for the 360.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I have both consoles, wanna see my PS3 with my name marked on it with permanent marker on the underside? I'll take a picture of it later and post it here for you. You're denying that MS did excellent with their software this year and is a brighter red apple for developers than Sony's system?

You having both consoles doesn't mean that you can't be biased towards one of them. And I do commend the 360 on great software sales this year in which they have greatly outsold the ps3 although that is to be expected with their larger install base. My only issue was people taking shots at sony for the wrong reasons and having selective memory.

And like I said in my last post they should both have plenty of success in the future. For the record I don't have anything against microsoft as I loved my x-box. The only reason I don't have a 360 is because of the rrod issues and because I refuse to pay for the right to play online.

Sure I'm biased more on MS's console as I have invested more on it than Sony's. It's just that more and more Sony supporters are getting deluded. They seem to have worsening cases of selective memory. I'm just trying to give a wider view at what's happening in console markets right now.

I think it is just a comma splice... Look at two completly different takes on the sentence:

We’re excited about Grand Theft Auto IV, not only because it’s a great title, but there’s multi-play and downloadable content that consumers will only be able to get on 360

and...

We’re excited about Grand Theft Auto IV, not only because it’s a great title, but there’s multi-play, and downloadable content that consumers will only be able to get on 360

That commma in the second sentence makes it seem like they are two separate things, and that dl is only on 360 (We already know), but the first one, there's no comma, and it makes it seem like mp and dl will only be on the 360. I don't see a reason why this would not be on the PS3 version, especially not announced by Rockstar.

I personally think this is just another thread made by someone who would like to take shots at the PS3 by elnino334, but that's just my opinion.

Sounds like the OP misread the quote. The way I read the sentence, he mentioned the multiplayer ability of the game and then stated that the DLC was xbox360 exclusive.

Even though I have both a PS3 and 360, and the 360 will have the DLC I will be getting the PS3 version of GTA4.
