Described as a merger of the PSPgo and Samsung Galaxy S the device will reportedly feature a touch-sensitive display between 3.7in and 4.1in in size, with a resolution of, or possibly greater than, 800 x 480 pixels. Qualcomm's 1GHz Snapdragon will most likely power the device, which will feature a button layout like that of the PSPgo, but instead of an analogue nub will have a touch-sensitive control area.

The implication is that rather than launching this 'PlayStation Phone' handset in isolation, it is intended to be a flagship device for a mobile gaming ecosystem. The handset will be marketed as an Xperia device, with the PlayStation twist coming in the form of a skin over vanilla Android, and a special area of the Android Marketplace will be dedicated to the games. Titles apparently being shown off include God of War, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and LittleBigPlanet, with graphical quality said to be in the PSP ballpark, so the quality level looks to be high.

It's no secret that the PlayStation Portable is suffering from the competition of devices such as the iPhone and iPod touch, which despite their inferior hardware are gaining great traction as portable gaming devices. It's not hard to imagine that if successful this PlayStation phone could mark the end of dedicated portable gaming devices for Sony, and a move into being a mobile gaming platform provider. And if the games are notably better in quality (in terms of both visuals and gameplay) than those available on Apple's App Store, that might not be a bad move.

While we've seen gaming phones fail before (you probably don't even remember the N-Gage), there's every chance for Sony to get this right. We're not writing the PSPhone off quite yet.

Sony Ericsson PSP2: First Specs Revealed!

By: Alan Ng | August 12, 2010

For those of you who have been searching for solid information on the upcoming PSP2, this is probably it. Engadget has scooped some exclusive details on Sony’s new gadget, and it looks to be a merge with Sony Ericsson on a PSP Go / Smartphone device.

As taken from their article, Engadget reveals that Sony Ericsson is designing a brand new mobile gaming platform, and their first hardware device will be a cross between the Samsung Captivate and the current Sony PSP Go handheld system.

They have included a mock-up image with their article so you can see what it looks like, but they have also provided some hardware specs that they have obtained. The device will feature game controls in place of a QWERTY keyboard, and these will consist of a D-Pad and Playstation buttons.

Here’s the interesting part. Intead of a analogue stick, the device will feature a ‘long touch pad’, which will make use of controls usually reserved for the analogue stick. The device will still feature shoulder buttons according to Engadget.

As for the display screen, it is thought to be a 3.7 – 4.1 inch display with a WVGA or better resolution. Since it is also a smartphone, it will come equipped with a 5 megapixel camera, 1Ghz Snapdragon processor and Android 3.0 Gingerbread operating system.

Engadget finish off by saying that the device will also most likely come with both the Xperia and PlayStation brand logos. Pretty exciting details there you have to say. Read through them and let us know what your initial impressions are.

Do you like the sound of the PSP2 or not? Expect full details at Gamescom.

Taking into account that minis for psp hasnt be a success and that selling 30$-games digitally also didnt work Sony has to offer something else.

The way i see it Sony has two competitors:IPHONE and 3DS..A single device cant possibly compete with both devices at once!!!The reason is simple:IPHONE IPOD TOUCH have cheap games arcade-style,while the 3DS obviously will focus on higher-production games. Now if sony wants to successfully compete with both devices has to come with a 2-way solution:

->PLAYSTATION SERVICE FOR ANDROID:games with psp-like graphics that are cheap and are based on well know ips(call of duty, god of war,etc)...These kind of service will be available not only to playstation phones from sony ericsson but also from other manufacturers(samsung, htc,lg,etc) that meet certain requirements(button-layout,cpu gpu, screen size, etc). Also they dont have to be phones but also netbooks, laptops, tablets, portable media players, televisions, etc based on Android.

->NEXT GENERATION PSP(PSP2):this device wil be the true successor to the psp.it will have its own physical-distributed games based on the high-end hardware found only on PSP2.HOWEVER the device will also be able to play all games from the playstation service for android.

That way Sony will not only bring the playstation experience to mobile phones/other devices and raise playstation brand-awareness but will also create a sucessfull service since the number of  devices that will be able to access it will be large, thus not relying on the psp/psp2  and its sales to make it popular.

To speak with numbers psp managed to sell 60mln in 6 years, while android phones devices last year were at 8mln,this year they will surpass the 30mln mark and growth is only on the horizon.!!

hey i think that i am turning into michael pachter(lol).......i can predict the future.......!!!!!! :) :) :)
