Forums - PC Discussion - Machinairum for $5 / 3,90€ - Pirate Amnesty Sale

Everybody who downloaded our game illegally (for free) has now a chance to redeem himself and get the latest version of the game (Win Mac Linux) and it’s fantastic Soundtrack only for $5 (instead of $20).

We released the game DRM free which means it doesn’t include any anti-piracy protection, therefore the game doesn’t bother players with any serial codes or online authentication, but it’s also very easy to copy it. Our estimate from the feedback is that only 5-15% of Machinarium players actually paid for the game. If you decide to buy the game, you can be sure you’ll support directly the developers, not any big publisher or distributor.

Listen to this pirate song composed by Tomas Dvorak specially for this occasion:

The offer runs from August 5th to 12th.

Not a bad deal I guess.

85-95% pirating the game sounds a bit harsh.

Machinarium is not very good. It's meant to be a point & click but most of it consits of these stupid puzzles which really spoil any enjoyment I had in the game.

Another thing. An indie game like this is only worth around $5 not $20. It should've been $5 from release, then maybe it wouldn't have been pirated as much.

I prefer Minecraft, an Awesome Indie game.... around 12 $....

We are Wii....Waiting for Pikmin 3! and Pikmin 2 NPC...

   Playing:

   - Donkey Kong Country Returns

   - Minecraft!

   -  Venezuela FTW!

well I heard a lot of praise for it from reviewers and some people around here (okr for example)

But I do agree that $20 for an indie game is too much.

The game has a great artstyle, music, atmosphere etc...

The problem with the game is that it has some of the worst puzzles I have ever seen in a point & click game.

Puzzles in a point & click adventure usually involve items, talking to people and interacting with things in the environment. I'm assuming that the developers were too lazy to do any of this which was probably the reason why they shoehorned dozens of annoying logic puzzles into the game. Including a game of tic tac toe (for real) on an oversized board which is incredibly boring -_- If I wanted to play tic tac toe, I would get a piece of paper and play it.

About the price. Machinarium and World of Goo are both the most expensive and the post pirated indie games. Coincidence?

DID IT MAKE YOU MONEY?

That's the only thing that counts. 100,000 sales and 2,000,000 pirated copies are better than 99,999 sales and no pirated copies. Stop bothering about pirates and put your energies into satisfying your paying customers.

They drop the price to try and get some people to buy the game and people complain?

You think it costs too much when it was 20? Heres your chance to make your point...

Support a non-DRM riddled game at the price thats good for you or shut the hell up.

...and that's why I liked it. Machinarium isn't a masterpiece or comes even remotely close to the best p&c adv games, but it's a puzzle game with wonderful and unique atmosphere imo. If you want a good recent point&click adventure game which got what you described (and isn't a HD remake of Monkey Island 1/2 aka the best game ever made), get Ceville, The Whispered World, Runaway: A Twist of Fate or The Book of Unwritten Tales. 2009 was an excellent year for p&c adv games, much better than 2010.
