Forums - Gaming Discussion - Looking at Each Console's Million Sellers (Wii Edition)

I'm suprised by not only the fact that Wario Land: The Shake Dimension hasn't broken a million, but also by the variety of million sellers the wii has.

I can't wait to see the thread for the DS

62 of the Wii's 84 Million sellers, are in the "E" category. That's 74%.

For comparison...

74% of the 360's Million sellers are in the T/M category.
74% of the PS3's Million sellers are in the T/M category.

IMO, this makes it obvious to see why the 3rd parties go to the PS3/360 for the big core games. Those big core games are generally in the T/M range.

Then again though, it's controlling that "E" market that has given Nintendo the huge lead they have.

Funny generation, that's for sure!

I agree. I think it shows how SPLINTERED gaming is as an industry.  For all the comparsion's that people in the industry like to say it's like the Movie industry CLEARLY it's not. The gaming industry is the only one I know that segregates itself like this. =p

If there is ever a 3rd party that can bridge the divided they would OWN.

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

Anyone out there who ever denies Wii's success is due to Casuals is dreaming.

The casuals are why Wii has sold like it has. Just look at the sheer number of casual games there. It's horrendous.

Be more interesting to see what % of each rating reach a million on each system.

I mean if there are only say 10 mature games total on Wii, how can it be expected to have 15 million mature sellers.

Be nice to see what % of E rated games reach a million for each console

What percent of E10 games reach a million on each conosle

What percent T...  You get the picture.

If 90% of games on Wii are rated E, no duh the % of million sellers are going to be mostly E rated.  If 90% of games on 360/ps3 are rated M, no duh most million sellers are going to be rated M.  So this study doesn't really help in seeing the overal picture.   regardless of quality of game, if the 360 has 50 mature games, and Wii has only 10, then the 360 will most likely have more mature games that reach a million.  be more insightful to see what percent of each genre on each console reaches a milion.  That is better.

Now you look and see Wii has what like 5 mature games that reach a million.  But is that 5 out of 50, 5 out of 10?  What is that.  Big difference if 50% of all mature games reach 1 million versus 10%.

thats not a fair comparison.  you can't work it that way.

only fair comparison is showing what percent of mature or teen title on each system reach a million out of the total mature/teen titles on that system.

360 could have 100 mature/teen titles and have 25 of those reach a million in sales

Wii coudl have 20 mature/teen titles and have 5 of those reach a million in sales

both systems have the same statistic.  25% of mature/teen games sell a million units.  You can't fault the Wii for having less released on its console?

and vice versa. wii has most likely way more E rated games on its system than 360 or ps3

Super Mario Galaxy and Zelda are the highest selling single-player games on any console this gen.

NSMB Wii and Mario Kart are the biggest local and online multiplayer games this gen.

Are they casual now?

That would be very interesting and very cool if someone did that. Of course, that someone would never be me.

Man, I'm just getting a headache from thinking about how much work that would take.

But it is an interesting point, that with %, each console is on equal terms. For example, Wii has 17 "T" games that have sold over a million, while PS3 has 20. Now, they're not too far apart, but since Wii has more total Million Sellers, Wii's % is at 20% while PS3's is at 33%.

@SenorTaco

That's a very interesting point. That's one of the points I want to talk about when everything is said and done.

i fully expect to be banned for putting this in writing but these threads just seem to reaffirm the console sterotypes: wii as the kiddy console, 360 as the shooter box, ps3 with no identity.

Not a kiddy console sheesh a  family console or something for everyone console.

You can do better then that I know you can

don't think woudl take too much work.  you already have half the work done.

You have how many million sellers in each genre for each system, such as 17 teen for wii and 20 teen for ps3.

just need to see hwo many TOTAL teen games there are for the wii and how many total teen games for ps3.  so just have ot find a site that has all games listed for each system and  a simple rating filter.

then would be able to see that say X% wii teen games reach million or 17/X and X% ps3 games reach a million or 20/X.  same for 360

Did not take too long before NDF got here.
