@antabus, hehe, yeah, like most JRPGs don't have characters designed to specifically be annoying. We could start a list of purposefully annoying characters in JRPGs and go forever with it.

The two kids in Lost Odyssey (sp?) come to mind. Also half the characters in Tales in Vesperia or any game made by Tri-Ace. There are many more I'm sure. Also the tortured emo guy archtype is annoying and that's in a ton of JRPGs.

Somehow I did not find those kids in LO too annoying but yeah, I could not play vesperia or star ocean (if that is tri-ace game). I just did not know that they were annoying on purpose.
How about the main kid in blue dragon? Is he annoying on purpose? Or marumaro? :D

Definitely some of the characters in Blue Dragon. But actually that was the one JRPG this generation I have no complaints about.
odd... it seems those signs critical of wrpgs are actually just more complaints about jrpgs...
