I know these are based on shipment numbers, but:

- Shipments are the 'real' sales.

- Most of the internet goes by these sales.

- These are Sony and MS's sales

- Most accurate figues

- Shipments are controlled by demand

- If Sony ever ships more PS3's, they will announce that they have outsold MS.

So, how do you see this gap going?

Sony announcing PS3 has outsold 360 worldwide, LOL I better stand back on that day and watch the TV for a good long time.  Well recent 360 sales says the gap is growing but shipments say it's shrinking, I don't know when it will close.

I will wait for other data like MC , NPD and GFK... i dont believe Sony , their numbers are ridiculous and they say no more Shortages on US in the month Ps3 sold like hotcakes now if Ps3 starts selling bad again is US i see them saying that shortages are back... LOL... Serious ... 360 in Japan is with shortages aswell ... hahaha JOKE!

Demand has increase for the Xbox, MS just isn't feeding enough consoles through at the minute.

Not sure an 'official' announcement would be made by Sony in such a case, but they would be likely to mention it in an interview, and it will be on gaming news sites. Look at Don Mattrick - 'We will outsell PS3 this gen,' Clearly not afraid to mention the competition.

I say sony will have sold more than microsoft in 1.5 years time.

Sony cannot lie about their numbers - they have regulatory authorities and shareholders to answer to. These numbers are ten times as reliable as MC, NPD, VGC and GFK figures because it is easy to monitor how many PS3s leave Sony factory's.

Just because you don't want to believe these numbers doesn't mean they wrong. They are fact.

The whole 'tight supply' thing could be fud, but from what I hear there were shortages in the US.

So the somehow the gap is decreasing while the  360 has been outselling the PS3 WW for the past month? We won't know anything to the end of 2010. And where's the Wii sales in all of this? Is the PS3-Wii gap decreasing too?

Anyway, Sony stuffing the channels and MS can't produce the slims fast enough. The closing gap is an illusion.

Except that the whole point of this site is to track how many consumers have actually bought the hardware, not how many are consoles are sitting in warehouses and store shelves worldwide.
