My take on the slow PS3 sales is the new black shiny box on duh street.
Whereas I agree that a large portion of sales have gone to existing customers either as second units or replacments I also feel that Microsoft are actually also attracting PS3 owners who have been sitting on the fence.
Microsoft have finally produced a product that tackles for them the 4 major points which I believe to be :-
Noise
Reliability
Storage
WiFi
The one area that still remains is the cost of online play but I think that it is a given that this will not be going away and actually if anything I think Sony missed a trick here.
I actually believe a very similar thing happened wih the PS3 Slim although not strictly speaking an upgrade as it removed some key features for some but for others the svelt machine overcame these deficiences and it attracted 360 owners who were also sitting on the fence but probably for the reason of cost.
All in all the redesigns have been very good for the industry the proof in my theory will be if we see software sales rise as it proves to be the achiles heal in my argument currently.

Kinect as seen by PS3 owners ...if you can pick at it ...post it ...
