Hey Demotruk, I'm curious: what do you think it would indicate if I win the latter half of our bet?

That I was wrong about the market for a cinematic Metroid game focused on Samus' personality. We'll see.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

It was dated and began to show, MP3 has VA anyway, just not for Samus.

Yeah, and it was really bad. Better writing and acting would have improved it, but it was doing quite well without it before. Your claim about lacking VA being outdated was rebutted by Rolstoppable earlier, btw.

The dialog kind of sounds like it was written by Sarah Palin.

I'm cringing imagining Samus winking at me and saying "You betcha!"

(shiver)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I think you guys are over reacting to Samus' voice. I think it is well placed. First what you have to realize is you are hearing mostly her inner monologue, not necessarily her speak a lot in the videos we have seen. Also, Samus is not Lara Croft - especially at this point Ripley - she is not self affirmed. I think the voice direction works, maybe some of the lines could be better, but i think the same about 95% of hollywood movies and 99.99% of videogames. Show me a videogame with stellar voice work (akin to Toy Story 3) - I'll give you a cookie.

Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

Both Mass Effect games

God of War's is good for what it is

For "stellar"? Probably down to just KotOR2 or Mass Effect 2, off the top of my head....

Uncharted 1 & 2 might be literally filled with cliches, but they do have stellar voice work. And so do the games that Khuutra mentioned, as well as Madworld. (Well, the announcers, at least.)

Now gimme my fucking cookie.

Saying Uncharted 2's voice-work is great is like saying Indiana Jones was Harrison Ford's best work, The voice-work is serviceable at best - You still didn't truly answer my request... Uncharted 2's voice-work is nowhere close to Toy Story 3... not even in the same ballpark. Though I may give you a cookie on the Madworld bit... I think to date they were the best announcers in a game... Bender is so good.

I am one of the few people on these boards that still owns Eternal Darkness, unfortunately I haven't played either Mass Effect. Claiming God of War's voicework is stellar is like saying the guy who played Leonidus should have won an oscar... again its an excellent film, poorly acted. Eternal Darkness voicework is shoddy for quite a few of the characters. Pious comes easily to mind. I was planning to buy Mass Effect 2 shortly since i got by uber PC, SO I shall reserve judgement. I still doubt it to be in the same league as Toy Story 3. But i'll go in with a positive mindset.

Nevermind, posted too fast, doing another reply....
