I think it would have benifited Sony if they delayed the launch of the PS3. You may think that would be stupid because they would be far behind the Wii and 360. But if you think about it, it's not. I belive that the main thing that was keeping the PS3 from selling great was not the price but the games. Just look at the Wii for example. When it launched it had around 30 games already, while the PS3 had a few. The Wii has been getting a steady flow of great games from launch to now. Now with the PS3 delayed, some of the big games would be there at launch such as KZ2, MGS4, GT5 and many others that would make that $600 price definately worth it. Plus they would have a nice steady flow of great games. They may even be selling even better than the Wii. These are just my thoughts.

Yeah, KZ2, MGS4, and GT5 would be there at launch...if they delayed it another 1.5-2 years...at least!  Delaying a console isn't going to shorten a games development time.  KZ2 and GT5 are still another year away, if not more, and MGS4 perhaps another 6+ months.

Wii found success though released a year after 360 because it was different and catered to casual gamers, nintendo fans, to an extent the hardcore, and a whole new fan base as well.

PS3 on the other hand has near identical competition with the 360. They should have released earlier without blu-ray, and been there to go head to head with the 360.

to have KZ2, MGS4 and GT5 as launch titles in would have to be delayed to about Feb 2009, way to late. If they had delayed it to this christmas they would have had a lower launch price, amazing games such R&C, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, etc and they would not have so far behind the 360 and wii.

if it were delayed they could have made more consoles becuase of the bluray  issues or something since it was sold out right away they would have sold more consoles and more devs would make more games/ better ports if they would have sold more consoles

Like Tombi said, it would have been smart to delay it to at least holiday 2007 so some great games will be out and the big ones wll be just around the corner.

Yeah, through out the entire year, they could have just kept putting up fake CGI footage of true "next gen" games making people believe it was light years ahead of the 360, in essence stopping all 360 sales. Instead people were able to compare multiplatform games in which they were virtually identical or even worse. Look at how the PS2 soared past the Dreamcast within a few months of its launch.

Well... We could agree that it would probably have the strongest launch out of the three consoles, but in my opinion it wouldn't have changed anything to release all the big games in one big batch. Sony's releasing the games in short doses instead, and as we can all see they've still managed to sell 6 million units after all. o_o

Don't worry, PS3 will have it's time to shine in 2008 I'm sure of it.

I don't know the first year normally sucks because really great titles need more time to develop and publisher do not like to release games for consoles that nobody owns. I mean it worked for Resistance and Motorstorm but I don't think that Konami would have released a title like MGS4 for a console that has essentially an installed userbase of 0.
It sounds good but nobody does it that way. The first-year games of 360/DS/PSP/PS2/PS3/WII they all sucked. The only really good title for the Wii was Zelda and that was essentially a Gamecube game. In the end you just have to first release the console and then wait for good games.
