Forums - Gaming Discussion - 3rd Party Killing the Wii

Interesting blog article... and where can i get an super nintendo like that?

"Maybe Third Parties are actually going to kill the Wii. Hear me out on this one. Just like in the stock market, it's possible for traders to "short sell" a stock, to make money in the short term by screwing over the company."...

"To succeed on the Wii, you have to compete against Nintendo, and you have to do it by out-innovating them. This just isn't something 3rd party publisher's are good at."...

"why not use the Wii as a means of financing your "real" games, the mega expensive Next-Gen titles for 360/PS3. Flood the Wii with easy to make/port games that will sell pretty decent since the hardware is new and people will buy anything."...

Some devs like Ubisoft are doing this, but others like Sega and EA are actually putting effort into their games

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Well Ubi has two ok exclusivs on the Wii. Rayman and Red Steel, then they have a lot of easy cash in too. But this sounds ridicules, it sounds like OMG 3rd parties is selling on Wii and we don't like Wii so we have to state something that this sounds like a bad thing.

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!

I think some of this could happen...Nintendo starts getting a bad reputation with the Wii because of all the quick cash-ins...

We'll see though...I mean, with the immense amount of support being added, I'm sure that quite a few good games will come out...leading way to better games over time.  If the Wii gets near PS2 popularity, it'll have crappy games all the time alongside the good ones...just gotta get used to it.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Seems to me more like wishful thinking than deep thought on this one.

The Wii has 4 months and already has at least 4 good games made from 3rd party and we're seeing exclusives being announced every week for the console.

It is all a numbers game ...

Regardless of the platform they're developing for 90% of third party games suck and only about 2% are really amazing. If your sales are poor and you only have 50 third party games published on your platform in a year you will only have 5 good third party games released in that year and 1 amazing third party game; on the other hand if your platform is popular and you have 250 third party games published in a year you will have 25 good third party games released in a year and 5 amazing games.

For Sega?  Yeah, Sonic on Wii was definitely an effort.  It was passable.  Why don't you go back and play Sonic on PS3 eh?

Well it was the best 3D sonic for a long time coming from Sega so I don't really know what you mean. Then we have Super Monkey Ball also from Sega. Missed something? Ohh Wii got Nights too. Say what you want about 3rd parties on Wii, they still have some hidden gems that only can be played on Wii. Then Wii have a lot of crap also.

Well look at the PS2. They had like 90% (I guess) of all games on the PS2. Practically every game that came out from a 3rd party was either exclusive to the PS2 or at least on the PS2. And everyone bought the PS2 even tho it had the weakest hardware, simply because it had the most games, so no matter what games you like, there were probably 100 of that type on the PS2 already.

Also if companies put good games out they will sell better, so eventually the quality will get better. When companies see that other companies are making lots of $$ with a great game, or when they see their good games outperforming their crap games we will see more good games.

The crap games will still be there, but who cares. Some people will like any game even if other people dont.
