Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Analyst: Microsoft could get $1 billion from Xbox Kinect

Judging from that pitiful excuse for a launch lineup, I seriously doubt it.

Now this is just trolling.  There are at least 2 system sellers in the launch lineup.  The fitness game and Dance Central both appear to be strong system sellers to certain demographics.

I think  it's hilarious how everyone on this site loves puffing their rainbow feathered chest out as they proclaim their own predictions as gospel, and refuse to see anyone else's point of view until reality eventually sets in and makes them look like fools.

So many people here yacking about how Kinect won't sell because 360 gamers are hardcore. Kinect won't sell because casuals already own Wii. Kinect wouldn't move consoles. Blah blah blah. Hell, 75% of this site thought that 350 would never beat PS3 in weekly WW sales again according to a poll taken 4-5 months ago.

And how many of you thought PS3 would be dead last 5 years into this gen? How many of you bashed the Wii before it was released, and bascially handed this gen to Sony before it began? How many of you thought the PSP would get completely dismantled by the DS? Probably none.

I know it can be fun to make predictions and support your favourite console, but try not to make yourselves look like idiots in the process. None of us really know how Kinect will sell so spamming your theorycrafting as if it's scientific fact is moronic.

2007 onwards = Inverse console wars based on sales analyst early experts.

Very unlikely the PS3 was expected to be in last place in 2010. PS3 was expected to win the console wars comfortably. PS2 smashed the combined sales of GameCube and XBox, by more than double. 70% share market of the PS2.

Someone forgot to tell the sales analysts. Different generation, totally different ball game. Sales for all three systems start again at 0-0-0.

If you assume an average of 3 $50 games being sold for every Kinect system for a total per-unit revenue of $300, (roughly) 7 Million Kinect systems would need to be sold to hit this mark. Personally, I would anticipate 1.5 games sold per system, and sales in the 5 million range, which would put the revenue closer to half this prediction.

Comparing the Wii Balance Board/Wii Fit to Kinect is unfair to Kinect as the balance Board/Wii Fit was a disruptive product. Think about the fitness games that have came after it? Only EA Active, BECAUSE it's style was boldly different from Wii Fit, has really sold well.

Kinect AS OF RIGHT NOW, doesn't have a disruptive product in it's library. It has me Too's. The one game that looks like a better version of Just Dance unfortunately isn't exclusive to the add-on.

A PEERRRRRRFFFEEECCTTTTT example of what I mean is Your Shape: Fitness Evolved. People seem to have forgotten that Ubisoft produced the SAME game with it's OWN camera last year. Matter of fact the going line on the presentation was, "Why wait til next year for a camera?" Ubisoft look like geniuses here beause with a few visual mods all they have to do is repackage the game from last year. BRILLIANT!!!

It's going to be a real chicken and egg senario with both Kinect and Move, because they need customers to see the products as more then just a mid-cycle add-on, and they need developers to treat them as such.

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

The estimate included the expectation that Kinect would sell another 1 million 360s.

$150 . . . .

Don't jinx it...there's still hope!(I hope)

That's just it, this prediction is ... well, predicated on the $150 being FACT, of which it is not.  That makes this all really, really premature.

Okay...here goes:

The problem with Kinect isn't that won't have enough games or it's too expensive. It's that it's an add-on just like the Sega CD and the Sega 32X. Those didn't do very well. Why am I comparing Microsoft to Sega? Because they are doing the same exact thing Sega did 15 years ago. Instead of releasing a new system, they are releasing an add-on. So whose to say they won't keep doing this to prolong the life of the 360? I'm not saying this will happen, I'm just saying it as a possibility. Something to think about.

You should never compare a corp like Microsoft to Sega, Microsoft has proven to do everything that Sega failed to do with the Dreamcast.

& about the sales in Japan, pretty much the only western corp that sells shit like hotcakes in Japan is Apple.

How many Xbox 360s did you sell?
