Forums - Gaming Discussion - Trophies and achievements - how do you like them?

The few games I have played with them I find them meh. They are mostly just a time sink and I know people in WOW that only do things for them. Thats ok if you find them fun and enjoyable, but id rather just play my games than have people shout out hey we doing the achievments everytime I go to do something. I have many myself and do not mind helping out, but it gets really old really fast.

It measures nothing other than how much free time you have and in some cases money. They dont really bother me, but they add almost nothing for me

I love them; allows me a LOT of replayability.  But I hate those trophies that want you to find something.  I'm still being denied my InFamous platinum cause of ONE damn blast shard.  Starting a new game soon with a map this time.  >_>

Currently playing: Marvel vs. Capcom 3, League of Legends

Thanks to Blizzard and WoW for introducing them to us!!

Maybe it's the fact that Sony was once on top of the mountain in this industry, and the fall from grace has been swift and brutal. The worst thing about being on top is the fall to the bottom, and maybe the transition from PS2 dominance to PS3 heel-dragging has had a damaging effect on the fanboy psyche, leaving them vulnerable and insecure. Maybe fanboys are suffering from a severe case of paranoid delusion, brought about by denial that the PS3 is in third place when once Sony was leading the charge.

I'm pretty sure it was Insomniac who introduced Achievements/Trophies, I remember collecting them in Timesplitters 2 on the ps2.

Except Timesplitters 2 wasn't made by Insomniac. It was created by Free Radical.  Timeplitters 1 had all those in game time trial achievements as well. I was able to get them all to unlock all of the extra characters. Was great incentive to attempt them and it really added a lot of replay value.

My favorite was the hard mode time challenge for the zombie level (The Mansion). I was literally running forward through the level without stopping and constantly getting head shots on zombies until I actually got ahead of their spawn point times. Then I was able to just run through the level and beat it in less than 50 seconds. This was not possible to clear this fast any other way!

WoW added them in 2008 with Wrath of the Lich King so i don't think they introduced anything

yeah it was already pointed out that they were out even before WoW released (which is when i thought Ach's were introduced). I only started playing WoW after Lich King was released so i thought they were there from day one

@ The other guy.

Shut up.

i like them i think they add replayability, and if people don't like them they don't have to try and get them - it's that simple

I started making videos for youtube; check them out.

Systems owned: Atari 2600, NES(3), Top loader NES, Yobo NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Sega Gamegear, Sega Nomad, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Playstation 2, Wii, PS3 (slim 120 GB), Wii U

You should congratulate me. I destroyed the vile red falcon and saved the universe. I consider myself a hero.

Trophies and achievements are harmless IMO.  I don't like them, so I don't pay attention to them.  It was, however, helpful in tracking my friends Demon's Souls progress by looking at which bosses he had defeated.

I would be more interested in trophies and achievements, but I play PC, Wii, and PS3 along with various older systems.  What is the point of comparing trophies/achievements if only a portion of the games I spend time on is compared at any given time?
