Forums - PC Discussion - So how much better is Dragon Age: Origins on PC?

So I have just ordered my new PC, the Sony F series and its specs are roughly these

i7- Q740
8gb RAM
nVidia 330m with 1gb of graphics memory

So I played Dragon Age on PS3, though I haven't finished it yet. I loved the story, but I hated the graphics and fiddly nature of the game. I also didn't love the combat, so is getting the PC version worth it? I will probably wait for some complete collection sale with Awekening and all the DLC, but is it that much better than the PS3 version?

ps. I don't mind any recomendations about good (and cheap) PC games that I might have missed out on

Dragon Age is one of those games that are really a lot better on PC. Firstly combat is a lot better. PC version allows you to scroll backwards into an overhead, Baldur's Gate-like camera, presenting a much more tactical view of the map you are on compared to console versions. Honestly, I can't imagine playing DA:O without the overhead view. Graphics are also better even with older rig (of course also better framerate). Then there is of course a lot of awesome mods.

Killerman's post just about sums it all up. Another way to look at it would be I bought the 360 version and played it for about 50 hours. I later bought the pc version and played it for over 200 hours. It really is a good game on the consoles but it is an excellent game on the pc.

Good, maybe I wont wait for the discount, my PC wont come for a few more weeks anyway

I disagree. As much as I'd love to see you get the PC version and enjoy it, it's honestly not much different from the console version.

Most ppl say the big difference is the ability to zoom out to birds view on PC but I almost never used birds view on PC. The default zoom level is best for most situations.

In my opinion the most important difference is the ability to easier click targets with a mouse than a controller.

It is much better. It looks better, but not by much, it is easier to play, and most importantly, it's harder because it is easier to play. They had to nerf the Normal difficulty after it came out because so many people were used to noobed up games and couldn't take the fact they just sucked and should play on Easy.

I thought it was much, much better on PC than on console. The isometric view, ease of enemy selection and difference in difficulty make it the obvious choice for me. I couldn't imagine playing it again on console.

The graphics were nearly indiscernable for me and I hadn't even touched any mods yet.

Oh yeah, also all the mods and new campaigns that the community made for it. Some are pretty good, I won't lie.

meh, I played with the close up view... but I played in 3D =) looked real nice!

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

It is much better in the ways as described by others.

However, it still looks fugly IMO. It just (for me atleast) runs at max and 60FPS.

I didn't play the console version enough to properly evaluate it. But, I wouldn't have continued it. (Yes wonky framerate bothers the hell out of me, If its fugly (which it is on PC) that's fine

for me atleast
