Interesting, the 360 is slowing down. Of course Sony will need much faster sales to catch up to the 360 (total consoles sold is most important right now.)

The DS will hit 1 million worldwide this week, easily.

The Wii probably won't, unless Wii Fit does something insane to Japan. Preliminary reports sound unlikely.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

The PS2 did amazingly at 450€, the Gamecube had poor sales at 200€. How can people still believe price is important for a gaming console ?

It's not exactly slowing down, since it had the same increase as the PS3 percentage-wise. It's below PS3 sales, but that's probably due to the fact that it's the PS3's first Christmas in PAL regions, and that the Playstation brand is really strong in Europe. It's a shame because everyone agrees that the 360 has better games on it.

Microsoft has to advertise the 360 more in some countries, and they may have to do a price cut too.

Carlos - your post about how the PS3, in relation to the Wii 6 months ago vs. now is an outright joke and you know it.

6 months ago, the Wii was outselling the PS3 3:1 in Europe.

Now it's about 1.5:1.

That's a huge difference over 6 months. Only someone that wants to belittle the competition would think otherwise. Using that same argument, the PS3 isn't doing any better in Japan from 6 months ago, when the PS3 was doing under 10k, and the Wii was at 65-75k, since "the Wii was only 50k above the PS3".

It definately seems that Europe will indeed embrace the PS3 strongly for Christmas, and the PS3 has a good shot at eventually outselling the Wii in Europe, as I've always said it would.

Bad numbers for the X360 in terms of marketshare, but the X360 numbers do represent a 15,000 unit increase vs. the same week last year.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

to be honest I don't, the only 360 games that I want are Halo 3 and Ace Combat 6 (and some proper ports other than Call of Duty 4 and Assassins Creed (which I only had one problem on thoughout the whole game)) and R & C and uncharted make up for it. Although it does have a broader range.

i doubt ps3 will outsell wii in europe, and it might of have been outselling it 3:1 and now 1.5:1 but now it is outselling it by a larger margin(if you check the numbers, not ratio)

endurance - I understand that, but a major increase in marketshare is still a major increase in marketshare.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

@NJ5: PS3 is up 44.5% and X360 39%. So it's close but not the same. Ioi changed the numbers, earlier it was 40% vs 40%.

I would agree with you if this was a long term change to the market share, but since it is a short term holidays sales situation it basically boils down to a situation where ratios like 3:1 are very hard to maintain during the holidays...especially with supply issues.  As I think the Wii could easily maintain 3:1 if they were capable of supplying it.

But I think looking at the ratios during X-mas is not very telling anyways. The ratios only matter in the long term as market share is a long term picture.  Looking at the holiday market share exclusively is just looking at a skewed picture.  The holidays will have a major impact on the market share numbers but by themselves they can be missleading.

In general I think we agree that using the leading console as a base line for saying which consoles are doing good and bad is only valid in a console war perspective.  Just looking at the sales numbers I think it is plain to see that the PS3 is doing well this holiday.  Certainly better than many expected.

I wouldn't say Sony is looking "good". Nintendo is just dominating in Europe.

Europe belongs to Nintendo.

Id say Sony is looking good. The 360 is their competitor, the wii is pretty much a different market.

So the DS its outselling the PSP 5:1 and Sony is looking "good".

Nice.

The abslute winner is not the only success. I bet you Nintendo would label the Gamecube a success despite note performing as well as its previous incarnation and getting curb stomped by the PS2. Why would it still be a success? Because they made a ton of money off of it. As long as a company is making significant profit off of its product, then the product is a success. Sony is not making money off the PS3 yet (at least not on hardware sales I believe) but it is doing very well with the PSP and PS2. The PS3 sales are definatly picking up, and it is definatly selling strongly compared to expectations.

It definately seems that Europe will indeed embrace the PS3 strongly for Christmas, and the PS3 has a good shot at eventually outselling the Wii in Europe, as I've always said it would.

Ok, that is a ridiculous claim. It might be able to, but it certainly doesn't have a good shot just yet. When it starts outselling it on a weekly basis I will say it has a good shot, but that is not really all that close to happening yet. The PS3 is definatly picking up steam, but it is not close to challenging the Wii just yet.
