Forums - Sony Discussion - Are Sony's 1st Party Studios Leading The Way?

I agree with the article - technically, they are leading the way.

he forgot Twisted Metal, The Agent and MGS4

not going to bother replying to topic, had a couple responses had started but then figured why the hell do i care what some fanboy's want to believe, but just going to respond to your part only

you should really pay attention to your topic title and the article.  FIRST party.  is the Agent or Metal Gear Solid 4 first party?  I'm not sure on twisted metal.

Not really. Nintendo first and foremost have been leading the way. Its been Nintendo first party titles which have made the Wii the fastest selling home console of all time.

I get the feeling you didn't read the article.

I read it but there wasn't much beyond a 'OMG SONY YOU SPEND SO MUCH IT MAKE ME HAPPY' opinion piece.

Sucker Punch and the Heavy Rain developers aren't Sony 1st party. I do so hate it when people don't research before they write articles...

Also Naughty Dog was misspelled

Sig thanks to Saber! :D

Technical level... sigh... hate this term.

If you want  a genre changing game, play Zelda on DS for example, but I believe it's not "technical" enough for you, right? That's a game that really changed the way you play games, like you won't believe.

There are exception in the PS3, of course, LBP for example, but mostly others breakthrus are mostly graphical - and with the kind of graphics I don't really care - realistic - so why should I agree with this article?

PS. Trauma Center, Rhithym Heaven, Electroplancton, Cooking Mama or Wii Sports... now that's changing the industry forever.

Zelda "DS"... genre changing??

Nope.  Controls changed.  Some times making clever use of the DS functionalities (blow on the mic to make a sound with your flute... instead of just pushing a button) .  But the games are still the same.  Even if they are great, they aren't genre changing games.

Not only the controls changed - how long did it take you to figure out how to "imprint" the map or blow the fans or did you felt embarassed to yell for discount at stores .

But I believe the best way to change a genre is to change the controls for a better way.

Yes. Because forcing Mama to cook, babysit and garden are definitely a forward direction that we want to go with the future of gaming.

Trauma Center, how is that changing the industry? It's a great game, as is Elite Beat Agents and Ace Attourney but I see Trauma Center being just a minor title in comparison to the others. Why not Professor Layton, The Curious Village has actually sold more copies than TC, RH and Electroplankton combined?

I'm not disagreeing that some of Nintendo's titles are innovative, but there is a difference between innovative and industry changing. Wii Sports was industry changing. The rest of the titles you pointed out were just innovative.

''When your friend has an awesome girlfriend and you have an awesome girlfriend. Who wins? Everyone!''

Shouldn't you be following your idol and not worrying about games that others are playing?

Hmm, innovative and industry changing are very similar to me. At least I believe every game that changed the industry was innovative in some way. And those are only examples... Professor Layton and Brain Age (who sold more than probably all Sony first party combined) could be there too.
