Forums - Gaming Discussion - Am I the only one who has this controversial opinion on Far Cry 2?

Far Cry 2 is one of the most "love it or hate it" games ever made, bar none. There's little to no middle ground, you either find it to be an immerssive and deep experience or tedious and nauseating one. Me? I'm in the middle ground, I don't consider it to be a good or a bad game, it's the pure definition of a mixed bag.

I think people misunderstand how to play the game, the game allows the player to decide how to playthrough each mission handed to them. This part of the game actually works, you're given a variety of weapons and tools to your arsenal to try out any tactical option to complete mission effectively. You can be creative an cause distractions with the game's impressive  fire propagation, then lure most of them to a explosive barrel.

To me, the bad part is getting to those missoins. Everyone, for little to no reason, wants to kill you. It becomes tedious as you fight through waves of respawning enemy guard posts. This almost made me turn off my Xbox360 and just stop playing altogether.

So yeah, does anyone else share the same opinion?

Yeah I agree with that. That's one of the main reason why I loved Far Cry 2. You just have so much freedom and the world map was very well crafted with beautiful scenery. I would have love to see animals though lol

There are animals, but very few. They've only placed herbivores, Ubisoft should've added a lot of carnivores, would've made the combat a lot more interesting.

The only thing I hated (and I really really hated it) was the end. You could not go back into the world after some point of the story. What a stupid decision from the developers.

Well, the game wanted to end at some point, so they had to restrict you for the finale.

that doesn't seem so contraversial...

contraversial would be saying that Far Cry on the Wii is a better game

I agree with that. It's just that the latter completely obliterated any fun which could have come from the former.

You're the first person to agree with me on this.

I am astonished how much I really don't care for Far Cry 2, despite it having a bullet list of features I should really like.  Not sure what it is, but I wasn't able to get into it at all.  I should like it a lot, but really don't.  It is sitting unplayed, and I can't figure out why either.
