PC: Starcraft II beta (yes it counts!)

Hell yeah!

Candidates:

- Mario Galaxy 2 (a nearly perfect video game)

- Sin & Punishment (the definition of an action game)

- Monster Hunter 3

- Endless Ocean 2

- Heavy Rain

- Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (a bit like Heavy Rain, but better) (release in Europe was in february)

- Fragile Dreams

- Red Dead Redemption (ok, it is a GTA4 mod, but it is fun!)

- Mass Effect 2

From all this games I loved Fragile Dreams most. Yes the gameplay is not innovative, but the atmosphere and story are exceptionally. Shattered Memories is an exceptional game too. But these two are niche games for ambitious gamers. Mario Galaxy 2 is a game for almost all kinds of gamers, and almost everyone has fun with these game. It's perhaps the best game in this gen.

Games I've played this year:

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (GBA)
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)
Red Steel 2 (Wii)
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Wii)
No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle (Wii)
Endless Ocean 2: Blue World (Wii)
Pokemon SoulSilver (DS)
Bioshock 2 (360)
James Cameron's Avatar: The Videogame (Wii/360)*
LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (360)

Game of the First Half of the Year: Super Mario Galaxy 2
Best Pleasant Surprise: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

*Yes, both of 'em. I'm over it now, I swear!

The realistic contenders (in order of release) -

Mass Effect 2

God of War III

Red Dead Redemption

Super Mario Galaxy 2

For me, there can only be one GOTY.

It concluded one of my favourite series' story and improved a lot upon the gameplay of part 1 & 2. When I finally beat the game, I couldn't believe Kratos' journey had come to an end. Who would have thought, that in 2005, a game that started off a truly epic franchise would be released. God of War III is the ultimate conclusion of the trilogy. The Ghost of Sparta has left me with a desire for more, although there probably won't be any more that are relevant in moving the story forward. So what happened to Kratos at the end of God of War III ? We may never know. I'm not sure if there will ever be a slasher series that is consistently awesome as God of War, which is IMHO the best hack 'n slash series ever created.

i liked FFXIII th most (story, music, gameplay, charcters all were gud except fang)

thn splintr cell (buy this game, i was surprised by how gud it was. the co-op is addictng, story is best in splintr cell and got rid off th bad taste mgs4 left in my mouth.

bt critics will give it to mass effect 2

As it stands now, in rough order:

Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Easily my favorite game so far.  Yoshi really added an element to this one I loved.
God of War III - Holy. Shit.
Final Fantasy XIII - LOL story and far too drawn out, but the battle system is awesome.  Overall the game was just fun.
Pokemon SoulSilver - <3 Espeon, but I think I've been playing too much Pokemon lately.  It's not grabbing like it used too.  =(

But I'll probably have to edit this when I finish Peace Walker.

Red Dead Redemption is perhaps my fav of 2010 so far it was the only one i actualy spent full price on, and it most likely will get GOTY, i didn't think most of the others were worth $60 so i gamefly'd them. My current fav will most likely change after the summer and the real kickass games start to release.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is a contendent, as it holds one of the greatest score of all time, followed by Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption, God of War III

But we hadn't seen yet how Gran Turismo, LBP2, Fable III, Halo Reach or Metroid Other M will be. Even Donkey Kong, Epic Mickey or Kirby could be contendents, so we'll see.
