Forums - Gaming Discussion - Wada: Globalization has failed due to " Japanese direction"

*rant*

I hate that direction. I despise it with all cells of my body.

I want Japanese games. What's so bad about that? I don't want some lame Japanese made western games. All the "Westernization" of traditional Japanese games, mainly RPGs, is really pissing me off.

*rant over*

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

Pretty sure final fantasy is slightly popular in the west. You know, just a few million copies worth of popularity. If square enix just kept doing what it was doing instead of focusing on more "western" titles then they would have been much more successful.

Time for hype

Wada needs to stop complaining about his own failed decisions, although I agree with him keeping a developmers cultural identity in there game, but I thought that should be obvious for any international publisher.

I get the feeling a lot of Japanese developers are essentially "trying too hard". They waste money and resources trying to give their Japanese games Western appeal that they often leave behind the values and traits that made people buy the games (in all regions) in the first place.

Then there is the whole userbase issue. Surely if they wanted global appeal all games should be comming out on Wii which has a huge market share in all 3 regions. Take JRPGs for instance. A lot have been released on 360 (exclusively or timed exclusive) where JRPGs are unproven and sell relatively poorly. FFXIII still managed to sell more in the West on PS3 even with more 360 consoles and more advertising for the 360 version.

Also, he's completely ignored success stories. Konami with MGS4 & Pro Evo, Capcom with RE4remake & RE5, Polyphony Digital with Gran Turismo products, and of course Nintendo with... pretty much everything Nintendo release.

Final Fantasies are expensive! They can't live just on that, they need to discover new ways of making million sellers without demanding 5 years and 60plus million dollars. They and mostly anyone else. Just a few companies are doing that atm, and most of them are doing fine.

problem with that is SE has completely abandoned all there IP's not FF, DQ or KH. They have shown they arnt willing to go beyond these safe houses, but they better learn because those IP's are being milke faster than dairy cow and eventually people are gonna get tired of playing these series

I agree with him for once... im completely shocked CAPCOM is not working on DMC5 and there is no way no other company can replicate DMC's style like CAPCOM.

Platinum Games who employs DMC's creator says differently...

Nintendo is one comapny that has succeded for ages at this. Japan in a majority is failing and if all it took was Nintendo to Globalize.. I dont think Wada would be making this statement. actually add something.

Westernization from Japanese companies is a reason I'm starting to lose interest in video games all together. I don't mind if they do some things that would appeal to Western audiences as long as they retain the Japanese feel, but to do what Capcom did this gen...most of their efforts this gen awful apart from Dead Rising, SFIV, and Mega Man (IMO). Resident Evil 5 is good if you look at it as just a game, but as a Resident Evil game? Meh. Again, this is just my opinion.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!
