Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft: Hardcore gamers are wrong

I love these contradictions. Two years ago Microsoft employees would've never made comments like this. Thank goodness there is still hardcore focus (even with the peripherals) at Sony. Secondly Microsoft and Sony were wrong about new style peripherals and Nintendo was correct. Hardcore gamers knew the focus would be taken off of titles made for them so they got pissed (and rightfully so). This guy needs to get his facts straight.

Oh, yes, you are so right. God bless Sony and their fantastic hardware, software, and business strategy. God I fucking LOVE them, oh my god yes!

As for hardcore gamers, they sure were wrong about a lot of other gaming devices in the past. For instance, we thought the PSP and the PS3 were going to be huge successes. We thought the Wii was underpowered, and sucked. We thought that the DS was a gimmick.

Sales strongly disagree.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

First he is the Director of Enforcement on Live. he isn't "MICROSOFT". Second he is correct that hardcore gamers have been wrong a lot in the last 10 years.  Go back and read posts on many boards when the DS and Wii were announced. It's some funny reading.  Also he is right about the achievement thing. Take a look at the gamercard for people with high scores. You will see things like Avatar, etc on there.

Ronster and I prove you wrong =P

There is some point to what he says, many hardcore gamers are narrow-minded and shortsighted when it comes to judging the success of new trends.

But on the other hand, I believe that hardcore gamers can very well judge if they are interested in certain games when they see game trailers. It was the bunch of shovelware game trailers that caused all this disappointment about Microsoft's Kinect presentation at E3.

I believe that Kinect will be a success overall and that even many hardcore gamers will buy the hardware. It's even true what some other Microsoft employee said shortly ago, that hardcore gamers will actually be the first to buy Kinect. But the vast majority of "true" Kinect games will completely fail among hardcore gamers. They will probably buy one or two Kinect games to be able to try out Kinect, but they will lose interest extremely soon.

Standard games that require a controller is where Kinect may in the end be appreciated by hardcore gamers. Games that only use Kinect for some minor additional features like voice controlling and which will probably work even without Kinect.
