There is some point to what he says, many hardcore gamers are narrow-minded and shortsighted when it comes to judging the success of new trends.
But on the other hand, I believe that hardcore gamers can very well judge if they are interested in certain games when they see game trailers. It was the bunch of shovelware game trailers that caused all this disappointment about Microsoft's Kinect presentation at E3.
I believe that Kinect will be a success overall and that even many hardcore gamers will buy the hardware. It's even true what some other Microsoft employee said shortly ago, that hardcore gamers will actually be the first to buy Kinect. But the vast majority of "true" Kinect games will completely fail among hardcore gamers. They will probably buy one or two Kinect games to be able to try out Kinect, but they will lose interest extremely soon.
Standard games that require a controller is where Kinect may in the end be appreciated by hardcore gamers. Games that only use Kinect for some minor additional features like voice controlling and which will probably work even without Kinect.
