Forums - Gaming Discussion - Pachter: Industry in permanent decline

It's not just Nintendo that Pachter rallies against, it's also Take 2.  So in a month where both companies are leading sales dramatically, it's no wonder he claims the sky is falling, because he can't manage to push his EA or Activision stock.

I have a simple explanation.

1. Recession: I.E. people who aren't keen gamers are going to put it lower on their list of priorities. So going outside in the middle of summer during a recession is going to be a little bit more appealing than it used to be. That oil spill doesn't help confidence much either!

2. Time of year. Since they often less keen gamers they are more likely to recieve a greater proportion of their software library as gifts. This time of year simply isn't gift giving season.

1. Recession isn't stopping PC Gaming and Mobile Gaming from growing.

2. Irrelevant.

While I do think recession has a hand in the decline of console sales, it can't be the only reason.

I think another huge factor is that this generation is past it's prime. Every generation, the first few years give great growth to the console industry, but after that they usually stop growing. In this generation, because of the recession, it is making the consoles sales decline considerably instead of just stagnating.

In order to make the industry grow, they need to release the next generation as soon as possible (2010/2011?). The downside of that would be that the costs would rise astronomically, and companies wouldn't make profit.

In short, the longer this generation lasts, the more the console gaming industry declines in revenue, but the more profit they make.

Why did the banhammer get dropped on shio?

It could be about time for a new hardware cycle. That would help revive the industry right?

Permanent decline.

I've never known Pachter to be wrong.

He posted without ridiculing Pachter.

PS: Pachter sucks.

(It was probably for another post. Don't worry, ban reasons are coming back at some point).

If I were to guess, trolling consoles. His signature is in violation of the rules, and I recall he's made a few posts before looking rather downward on consoles and their users.

Yes Nintendo is so much in trouble, I mean its only outselling every other software publisher in the market, how horrible, they are doomed

Is that due to long-term attrition?  shio's m.o as long as I have been on here has been to trash and troll about consoles.  He has repeatedly made comments bashing consoles on here.  I was just suprised now the banhammer got dropped.

the article is really just bashing Nintendo and some other games

AW really did surprise me with its lack of sales idk if it was the game or if the audience wasnt on the 360 i know id pick it up had it been on my console

i dont see it declining HW wise i see next year both ps3 and 360 having there most HW sold in a year WW  since there release and that upcoming releases like CODBO MOH Socom4 selling a more than what people are expecting them to

“Rather, we believe that the publishers and developers of games have created more robust multiplayer content in recent years that has resulted in core gamers playing the same games for much longer, on average, than they did in the past, leading to lower sales of new games.

This is the reason. The consumer actually gets so much more value out of each game nowadays, while games have remained at the same price, so people simply don't have to buy as much new games anymore to get their gaming needs satisifed.

A typical light-core gamer can buy only Guitar Hero, Madden and Call of Duty and those games in multiplayer will give him hundreds of hours of entertainment and  satisfy his gaming needs for years.

So console gamers are becoming more and more like PC gamers with this games.
