Forums - Sales Discussion - So how are 3D TV sales going?

Anyone know whether a decent % of TV sales are going to 3D TV?

Lots of speculation on this website about 3D TV, mostly of the  3D TV is doomez (at least while it needs glasses) variety from what I've seen. But hardly any information about whether 3D TVs are selling according to industry expectations or languishing on shop floors.

Maybe this should have gone in Off Topic, but I put it here because adoption of 3D TV is very much part of the PS3 sales strategy and game development strategy. So it is relevant to gaming hardware and sfotware sales.

Can you see Sony bundling PS3s with 3D Bravia TVs this coming holiday? They did the "Boom! to the power of Boom!" HD TV bundle last holidays in the US.

Nothing new is ever doomed unless it has competition. What's competing against 3d?

more affordable HDTVs that do not have 3D. Because of 3D HDTVs, normal HDTVs are going down in price. This means more middle class/lower class citizens can now afford normal HDTVs. I must admit, I will probably get a 3D HDTV during the holidays so it will be interesting to see how well they sell during that time.

I agree with you and everything. Its just that I find it difficult to imagine that everyone will not be bought into the hype. Blu-rays are starting to take-over just like DVD's did back in the day. Same will go for 3D. It will become the norm for HDTVs to be 3D-capable.

I agree, in the long run, that all TVs will have 3D. Weirdly, this will help Blu-rays sell more since it is the only format that can support 3D films. DVDs to Blu-ray wasn't nearly as big of a jump as VHS to DVDs until now with 3D.

2D. Which i am a proud supporter of.

^You and me both. I already wear some stinking glasses, I don't need another pair just to watch TV.

I'm with these guys. ^

I don't even have a desire for blu-ray. DVDs still look awesome to me. And I love my LCD TV now. I even drove 40 miles out of my way to find a theatre to watch Toy Story 3 without 3D (avatar sucked with my regular glasses under the ones at the theatre).

Sometimes I think technology moving forward is pretty impressive. Then I have to look at it and say "Is that where I want to go now?"  I guess I'm hitting that age where school was uphill both ways and I want my milk delivered in glass bottles.

Consoles owned: NES, N64, PS1, GC, PS2, Wii.

Currently playing...

yeah 3d is for people without imagination.
