Forums - Sales Discussion - GameStop cease Xbox 360 trade in, PreOrder list too long

http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-28759-Atlanta-Video-Game-News-Examiner~y2010m6d26-GameStop-tradein-deal-for-Xbox-360-Slim-is-dead-no-longer-taking-preorders

GameStop initiated a trade-in deal at the launch of the new Xbox 360 S (aka Slim) that allowed owners of older Xbox 360s to bring in their consoles and accessories and trade them at special prices to reduce the cost.  We took advantage of this offer so that we could review the revision of Microsoft's console before they quickly sold out.  Now there is news that the trade-in deal is over barely a week after it began.

We called around to several metro Atlanta GameStops this afternoon and the word from all is the same.  They are no longer taking pre-orders on the Xbox 360 S because the reserve list has grown too long.  This essentially ends the trade-in deal which was scheduled to expire on July 18.

Wow, a lot of people wanted the upgrade it seems.

Wow, and I just did this a couple days ago. Looks like I made it just in time!

Congrats to microsoft on making a desired hardware device...

But I really dislike Gamestop. Another example of them not honoring promotions...

Just earlier this week I went to trade my xbox for the slim, and I was hoping to use the credit I got when I traded 6 of my games for Dead Rising 2 and Crackdown 2 to pay for the difference. Except I did this in February and March...and apparently the games I traded in back then have to be refunded back to me and traded in again for the system.

The problem is that they were worth 120 bucks 3 months ago but are worth 60 today according to their tradein values...

So F them!

Ugh that sucks. Yeah gamestop is so full of crap. They generally rip you off with trade ins, and any time you try to buy something there they're always trying to push extra crap on you like strategy guides and "insurance," garbage like that.. I just want my damn game!

The trade in for the new Xbox was the first time I went to gamestop in years, becuase it was actually one of the few good deals they had. I managed to get $200 bucks for a 5 year old Xbox 360 and accessories I don't need anymore. I would have just sold it on amazon, but I actually would have made less money on there, plus all the hassle of shipping everything out. Probably the one and only time I will chose gamestop over amazon for my gaming transactions.

How do they even get away with that? they've had your games for 3 months, they owe you what they said you'd get. I'd argue that.

wow I guess the new 360 really IS that desirable

Not to be a drag but this might just be for Atlanta. Over here in Canada and several parts of New York where I have family, they're still taking trade ins. Another thing over here the bastards at Gamestop are only giving us 100 bucks for our 360s and hard drives.

I donèt have the patience to argue with teenagers and their overweight managers. This wasnt the first time that their policy screwed me... Ive realized that what they give with their promotion, they take back some other way. So screw them...Ill sell my 2nd xbox myself and buy a slim eventually

i ordered 2 new 360's today, 1 for myself and the other for my wife.
