BioWare Pledges to Continue Making Great Games for the PC

By Mike Sharkey | Jun 24, 2010
Star Wars: The Old Republic is on the way, and more PC games are to follow, studio says.

Fear not, PC gamers. As developers continue to shift their focus to consoles, at least one major studio is pledging to continue to fight the good fight and design games for PCs.

In an interview with CVG, BioWare designer and writing director Daniel Erickson said there is "no question" his company would continue to focus on making great games for the PC.

"Every two or three years we hear the announcement of fantasy being dead, PC gaming being dead and RPGs being dead," Erickson told CVG. "And yet, all of the biggest games that ever come out -- that set the records -- are nearly always PC games, and a lot of them are fantasy games."

BioWare is now hard at work Star Wars: The Old Republic, an ambitious MMORPG the studio and its publisher, Electronic Arts, hope will challenge Activision-Blizzard's MMO juggernaut World of Warcraft for the title of the world's biggest PC game.

"There was not a question when we started Old Republic -- or any of our games, for that matter -- [what the lead format would be]," Erickson said. "There's a reason the lead SKU for Dragon age was [PC] as well. When we're developing an RPG, it's a natural place to be."

Great to hear Biowares commitment to the Platform. Cant wait for TOR!!!!

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

Well, the PC gaming industry will need all that it can get. This generation of consoles is on par with the PC in both graphics and gameplay for a fraction of the cost to run the latest, bleeding edge games such as Crysis 2.

As a former PC gamer who cannot game due to my laptop not having the graphics card, I look forward to both StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3  each selling over 10 million and reinvigorating PC gaming.

Wrong. PC graphics are FAR superior to consoles (as they should be considering the hardware in PCs are constantly improving). That is not to say that PC gaming is superior (as that is a matter of preference) but no one can realistically argue that consoles are on par with PCs as far as graphics go.

That is good news! Glad to see not everyone jumping ship.

Most of their PC version of the games have sold more than the console versions so of course they'd stick to PC, it's a no fucking shit lol.

That is not true. Graphics on the PC are far far ahead of console graphics, and gameply has to be significantly dumbed down to fit on consoles' extremely limited control scheme and demographic.

This is even happening to RPG's, they are mostly a shadow of their former self. The day RPG's become completely casual and shallow is a sad day indeed for old gamers like me who grew up on the genre and love it to bits.
