I do not see how preventing early preorders with higher price can be a "smart marketing move".

Point 1 - Microsoft have said they will announce pricing in August at the German game conference
Point 2 - The oft quoted Microsoft shop states (it does now) that the price is a holding price.
I doubt Microsoft have finalised the price yet and suspect they advised a place holder price of $149. If I step into the rumour mill then I think that the rumour of $119 or there abouts is probably a good call. Certainly the UK retail market has sent strong signals to Redmond that for the UK market the price needs to be £99.99 which is doable at $119.
For some reason the HTC Desire just refuses to recognise the text box most annoying hence the late edit and the previously blank post...
