Forums - General Discussion - It's been a day, and i'm still depressed about Azzurri.

I'm Italian and I support Rol. The coach made a lot of mistakes and the players did a poor job. It's right we're out...I'm gonna support Spain or Brazil (too many friends bet on Argentina or Germany, I don't want them to win while I couldn't bet!).

you can partially thank our good old all whites for that

i know, Italy was a big let down this WC, so was France, but wha can we do? there are a lot of "underdog" teams this year, big surprises that are playing very well, Japan or Korea for example, that are taking out the big ones, making this WC very interesting.

shit, i´m mexican and i fear we are gonna lose agaisnt Argentina this sunday... man i´m already sad =(.

there is a lot to be depressed about if you are an Italy fan... where are the younger players coming through?

Not really I'm italian, and I am not depressed, this terrible results will force a large replacement of both player and coach which is really needed, also some of the actual players were convoked only for sponsorship deals, so they deserve this. A lot of people here, myself included, were expecting similar results.

Eh. Last time the Italians had outstanding defence, but a very boring playstyle. I want Argentina or Germany to win, those teams know how to attack.

They have a defensive playstyle, making nearly all of their matches boring to watch. They don't try to win by dominating the other team.

Terrible? Are you nuts broseph?

Because of the coach's terrible choices of picking who plays and doesn't, is a result of their loss so early.

A lot of great players should have been called to play, but instead they sat at their homes watching Italy get owned because they weren't there.

Buffon has been crowned several times as the best goalie in the international league, and he could have stopped almost every shot that was taken on net that Marchetti missed.

Italy isn't only defense.

Putting the blame solely on the coach is wrong. Or do you want to imply that Italy only has about a dozen of talented players, so if half of them can't play for whatever reason, then the team is worth nothing? What Italy has shown in their three matches falls pretty much in line with their usual performance in the group phase of a big tournament. This time they just didn't have their usual luck, so they got eliminated.

Against Paraguay, they weren't good, they played lousy. Against New Zealand, they looked helpless, barely able to get close to scoring a goal. Against Slovakia, they did nearly nothing and only started to play football after the wake up call that was the 2-0. Out of possible 270 minutes, Italy showed what they are capable of for roughly 15 minutes. Good riddance I say.

When was the last time that Italy went through a major tournament and people said "Wow, they are playing great, who's possibly going to stop them at this rate?" Maybe that happened before I was born, but not during my lifetime.

Like 4 years ago? previous last cup they did very well in every match they played and they weren't so defensive as you describe them, you probably haven't watched the matches too if you think they were that defensive.

Pirlo controlled 2006 games from beginning to the end, except for the finale which they got defensive in the second half.

Just because they defended well and let only 2 gaols in doesn't mean they were playing defensive.

you're obviously hating for whatsoever reason!

Go re-watch 2006 matches again then!

and yes people were saying similar stuff like "omg who can pass canavaro and zambrotta and then score in front of buffon??" you know they both count as talents too because if they don't, any team could do well and win the world cup... 4 times.

The coach even blamed it fully on himself in an interview.

World Cup 2006, I think they played great. A team doesn't win a world cup, or even advance into the last 16 unless they are doing something good. Doing what they did ended up in a fourth world cup, world champions.

Nobody expected Italy to go far at all this year, because the coach's poor choice of players.

Marcello Lippi is done anyways, there will be a new coach for 2012 euro cup and 2014 world cup. Hopefully he makes some good choices to get Italy back.

Regardless of whatever you say, four stars.

There you go, that's the answer. They didn't do shit, that's why they are out. They suck anyways. The ultra defensive game is the worst that can happen in a football match. It's not even football damn it....

I'm very happy italy is out.

And Cannavaro said that Lippi always wants to protect the team in an interview shortly afterwards. Lippi is taking the blame on him, but according to Cannavaro the team very well knows that their poor performance was the main reason that sent them home after only three matches.

In 2006 their first match was so unlike themselves. It was one of the rare cases where they dominated their opponent, in this case Ghana. Then they went downhill big time against the USA and played at least solidly against the Czech Republic. They eliminated Australia with a lot of luck. Their goals against the Ukraine happened just at the right time, 2-0 right after the Ukraine had three big chances to tie the game. They played lousy against Germany for 90 minutes and then surprised the Germans by playing football in the overtime. The final was horrible, because they played against France who want to be just like Italy.

In the end, Italy is a tournament team like Germany who happens to have the necessary luck a lot of times. The biggest difference is that Germany plays good football more regularly.

Sure, four stars. But come on, two of those were in the '30s when a lot of things were fishy. When I read about Italians punching Spanish players without getting penalized for that, yeah...

LAWL, this is football dude!

you know these excuses could be used almost every match for every team? lawl again, you can't be serious , I guess posting sarcasm most of the time does that to you.

and four stars yes , they also reached the top 4 many times, stop trying to minimize their achievements just because you don't like the way they play.
