According to GAF this's below GC but above Dreamcast with low power consumption and quite cheap, so can we guess something below 200 for the price?

So were talking slightly more powerful then the PSP or on par. I guess thats why Sony isn't itching to release PSP2 the origional PSP has nearly the same power if they released a PSP2 they would need to substantially improve the graphics which isn't possible at a competitive price. Bravo Nintendo I think you just killed Sony's handheld dreams!

PSP is probably still a bit more powerful than this. running at max of 33 million polygons per second, vs the 16 million on 3DS... also, PSP runs around 300mhz vs the 200mhz used by 3DS.

Sony needs to improve game selection, not to increase spec.

now the only question is, how much will Nintendo charge fo this

I would be completely upset with Nintendo for giving us something less powerful then the PSP. But if its in 3D I can understand that they need a cheaper chip to offset the cost of the screens and other technology. Nintendo is in the buisness of profits after all.

But the screens don't look that great (MarioKart/PilotWings) Wasn't PSP less powerful then the GameCube?

What i want to know if this chip has been confirmed or is it just another rumor like the TEGRA chip?

Video looked pretty good. Glad Nintendo went with something that looked good, but was still affordable and has a long battery life. Gamecube type graphics will be really nice and maybe now we can get some sort of Smash Bros 3DS game. I don't even care if it has a story line, that's not why you buy Smash Bros, you buy it for multi player. Even a Smash Bros Melee port with additional characters and other things would be fine with me.

Can't wait to see what else Nintendo has in store for us and to learn more about the 3DS. They should get demo systems out way before the actual console releases just so people are "in th know" about the 3DS, and so I don't have to wait as long to try the 3D out myself. lol

thats awsome

The 3DS has already run the MGS3 engine, with AA added, and in 3D, which is something the PSP is not capable of.

Uh, you do realize that's just the CPU core of the PSP, right? This is the 3DS' GPU exclusively. We still know nothing about its CPU. You're comparing a CPU to a GPU.

We do not know the specifics of Nintendo's customization of this chip: we know it's not running MSAA (nor is PSP), but is using jittered samples to produce an anti aliasing effect (although I'm not sure that could be compatable with 3D effects). Regardless, every single possible specification of this chip is above the PSP's dedicated GPU by substantial margins, and has significantly improved shader effects.

In other words, unless Nintendo went in and deliberately limited the fixed pipeline in this chip, it's impossible for this to be lower spec than the PSP's equivalent. It's either better, or much better: one of those two.

The base architecture of this chip was not designed until 2006, a year after the PSP released (and the PSP was using chips designed in 2003).

hmmmm, so the 3DS is going to be packed with 2 of these chips. I doubt Nintendo will order a customized version for the NDS. Keepin mind that it's the 200 model ie 200hz. Keeping this in mind I may have to eat half a hat. However the final results come out that this chip is not anywhere near the Wii and not even the PS2. However as stated above the techniques will cover it's short comings to give us some nice graphics. The final question is what's the video ram going to be for each chip?

Style =/= Power.
