Well, then I guess I'm not going to be buying it at launch.

People are going to explode when they find out what kind of profit margins Nintendo is making on the DSi.

Well...Pachter then toned it down and said that he felt it would launch for $249. I think that's a very reasonable price for the tech under the hood of this thing. With that said I do hope that they throw in a hard drive or a nice large amount of flash memory for all of the games and movies we'll be downloading.

I do not see how nintendo can launch the 3DS for anything over 200 dollars.  200 is likely the sweet spot that Nintendo is hoping for.  It would be a solid balance between setting the launch price where people can afford it, and hopefully making a little profit from the start. If they can hit this launch price point I think the 3DS will sell extremely well from the start.

Bringing out a handheld that costs more than your home console just sounds like a bad idea.  $199.  Even with the DSi @ 169, Ninty is probably making a silly profit, so "a lot" more could be anything.

if is around $250 or less then is day one for me

This will boost DS sales even more. Nintendo knows how to run their business. I'm pretty sure they are doing this so that the DSLite/DSi/DSiXL can print them more money this holiday and fiscal year. The technology behind this little thing is something to be taken seriously and will be worth those 249.99 dollars.

This worries me. However, the CPU/GPU engineering prof at my university estimated that with a large enough volume, a DS could cost as little as $20 to make (not counting shipping, retailer cut etc..) so that doesn't mean the 3DS will be expensive. (I find the $20 figure way too low, but he's an expert and I'm not.)

He didn't say it cost more than the DSiLL, so it might cost in between those.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
