well the dreamcast sold 11 million consoles.. and like less than 14 million games.. while the PSP has sold almost half a billion software and 60 million systems.. huge difference between the two.. idk why you even compare it to the PSP

?

btw Dreamcast sold around 63M games.

So I'm the only one who concluded that the 10yr shtick applied to handhelds as well, before this article?

Yep, everyone else concluded that it didn't apply to either.

The 10 year plan is a joke.

Whilst i agree the PSP is far from the Dreamcast, I would like to see a source on the 'less than 14 million claim'

Infact, I don't because any source that claimed that would be wrong

VGChartz tracks 16 million sales of DC games, so the total is likely about 20 million considering VGChartz data is sketchy for older consoles and lower selling ones to boot

You're wrong, total PSP software sold didn't go well beyond 200M at this point, don't remember exact figure.

Both have great games but few system sellers;  the PSP only have one in Japan (Monster Hunter), none of the games on the PSP have the same mass appeal of Nintendogs, Dragon Quest or Pokemon, for a handheld is important to have games that you can only experience in a portable system.

Another thing is that both had elements that were quickly surpassed by other companies, for example the Dreamcast had the Internet connection but the XBOX internet were more efficient, the PSP had the movies and music support, both of them are now more popular in iPod or iPhone.

It's nice to see sony supporting the PSP as a gaming device, the first approach as a "Next walkman" was really wrong, I honestly don't think this new add campaign'll help a lot with the sales in North America with the DS, Apple products and the announce of the 3DS getting all the attention, it's just a matter of time.

Where the hell are you getting that figure? certainly not VGChartz, we have it at 161 million. 2.8 attach rate.

Edit - LMAO we don't even have Wii at 500 million games ... let alone PSP ...

PSP is at half a billion if you include piracy (oh zing?)

And Dreamcast is tracked at 16 million [edit]software[/edit] sales on VGChartz, so likely nearly 20 million including the games/regions VGChartz hasn't tracked

Sonic Adventure - 2.5 million
Soulcalibur - 1.3 million
Crazy Taxi - 1.2
Shenmue - 1.2 million
Resident Evil Code: Veronica - 1.14 million
NFL 2K - 1.13 million in the US
NFL 2K1 - 1.01 million in the US

7 Games = 9.5 million

Those are shipped figures to my knowledge, that's just 7 games ...

Well if consider that those 11 millions were in 2 years and that it happened 10 years ago, I would say itcould be comparable to PSP's 60 millions

And I'm having a hard time believing that the PSP has an attach rate of 8 .
