The original source.

I think it might be reliable.

Yes, they seem to be reusing PS2 assets for about 80% of the game's vehicles.

Still no where in there does it say there is no cockpit view for the standard cars.

I don't know the first thing about it. I only posted this link because I saw this discussion and remembered the same one goignn on at NeoGAF. Did they have cockpit views in the PS2 version? If so, they'll probably be PS2 cockpits with nicer textures.

I dont remember that long ago.  But they did have them for GT5p,  about 70 cars worth of them.  And I cant imagine that all of those are in "Premium Cars" group.

I think they are, actually, but I don't kknow - I admit I don't follow Gran Turismo. You could look it up, maybe? Is there a list of the Premium cars?

lol.  Can I call it Gran Turismo 4.5 now?

No wonder the game did only cost $60 million to make, they did cut a lot of corners during development. I think any Sony fan with the slighest sense of self-respect should stay clear of this game. It's a ripoff.

At least with Nintendo I know that they won't try to sell me repackaged stuff from last gen.

Let's not do this, guys. They're still nice-looking cars, and modeling 200 of them as much as they did would take a lot of time.

lol, just having some fun.

Honestly, I don't see any real problem with asset reuse, even generational.  I'm pretty sure Forza did it as well... though in fairness Turn 10 also didn't take 6 years to pump out a sequel either.

No they arent,  the Mustang has been listed as a Standard car many times but was in GT5P with a cockpit view

There you go, I guess (though I thought there were more than a few Mustangs). t will probably just be lower-detail than the Premium versions, if you're right.

Gran Turismo 5 will feature over 1000 cars, the most ever in the series. It’s a collection of the hottest and most desirable cars from around the world, both past and present.

There are two tiers of cars in Gran Turismo 5--Premium cars and Standard cars. The differences between the two are as follows:

Exquisitely Detailed, Premium Cars Are Stunningly Recreated Both Inside And Out

Includes over 200 cars

From the seductive curves of exotic sports cars, to the inviting sight of the road ahead when you slide into the driver’s seat and peer past the glass, down to the intricately detailed instrument panel and dashboard... Every one of the over 200 premium cars recreate every last detail of the car, inside and out.

Gran Turismo 5 contains over 200 of these "Premium" level cars.

Updated Cars From Past Gran Turismo Games Present An Unrivaled Lineup

Includes over 800 cars

The massive lineup of cars from past Gran Turismo games has been beautifully recreated through the latest technology and the Playstation 3’s cutting-edge graphics.

Gran Turismo 5 feature an astounding 800 cars, a vast collection covering a wide range of eras and categories.

Intricate Details Raise The Bar For Racing Games Yet Again

The quality of the premium level cars is of course the intricate modeling of every tiny detail of not only the exterior, but the interior as well. No other game offers this level of ultra-high detail.

This level of detail extends from street cars to custom racing machines, where the unique instrument panels, colors and textures of the seats and interior materials, and more, have been painstakingly recreated.

Below are the comparison shots between the level of detail seen on premium cars (right) in Gran Turismo 5, and the actual photographs of the cars taken during data capturing sessions (left). See for yourself how far close to reality Gran Turismo 5 has come.

ARTA Garaiya (SUPER GT)
The interior of the Garaiya, a well-known SuperGT race car. Starting from the frame forming the chassis, everything from the steering wheel, pedals, switches and wires have been accurately recreated.

Audi R8 4.2 FSI R Tronic
Wheel area of the Audi R8. Note the rim’s intricate design, and behind it the brake calipers and brake rotors faithfully reproduced.

Ferrari 458 Italia
The engine compartment visible from the rear window of the Ferrari 458 Italia, showing off the 4.5 liter V8 engine capable 570ps.

Nissan GT-R Spec V
With these shots of the front grill area of the Nissan GT-R Spec V, you can see the GT-R emblem and the special carbon parts which identify it as a Spec V.

Dodge Challenger SRT8
The back seats of the Dodge Challenger. Though it may not be seen very often during racing, it still receives the same attention to detail as everything else.

In Gran Turismo 5, cars have fully-functioning headlights. Premium cars even feature both low and high beams for a variety of racing conditions.

Premium cars: Headlights with high beams and low beams
Standard cars: Standard lights only

So basically your just trolling GT5?

Not unless we have two very different understandings of that word, no.

From the Gran Tursimo site....

"The quality of the premium level cars is of course the intricate modeling of every tiny detail of not only the exterior, but the interior as well. No other game offers this level of ultra-high detail.

To me this sounds like the 800 standard cars have no interiors which is a HUGE letdown if true.
