Forums - Sony Discussion - Move is accessory hell from a charging perspective.

While I understand your point, it isn't that hard to purchase a USB bus.

Around the Network

It's really a non-issue.  Battery life on all the Dualshock / Controller peripherals is superb.  It's not a total pain in the ass like running on AA batteries can be.  Searching high and low across the house for a spare set of expensive batteries.  I love not having the need for batteries.   You can charge all of your stuff when you AREN'T using your system or plug them into one of several other USB port devices.   It's actually less of a pain in the ass than having to run out to the store at Midnight because you just used your last set of batteries.

You make the simplest things seem 100X harder than they are

Unless you're playing your PS3 24/7 and have your friends over partying all the fucking time, just charge everything on your PS3, it should definetly be enough. But you completely ignored Kylie's post in that if you really do have to charge stuff immedietly you can use almost everything in your house.

Have one of those iPod charge things (the squares with the foldable electrical outlet and USB port)? Use that shit. Have a PC? You have like 4 USB ports.

But the batteries last long enough without having to constantly recharge. Just play normally, your friends will eventually want to actually sit down and talk, eat dinner, do something other than move, and while you're doing that other shit, or while you're sleeping, while you're surfing on your PC, anything, just find a USB port and plug it in.

I mean Jesus, you're making this so much more complicated than it has to be. Kylie explained it already, and you're just dramatizing it so much.

"Are you actually saying that having half a dozen accessories to charge wouldn't be a hassle for the typical person?"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iu4-oG7P-nI

I'll spell it out for you, since you're not getting it.

The Wii has a rear port for the sensor bar with optional wireless sensor bar and uses two pairs of AA batteries to power two sets of Wii controllers and all you need is a battery charger which can charge batteries in 15 minutes. If you run out of power your minimum down time is 15 minutes which is nothing really.

The Wii is simple to use. You don't have to buy or assume people have any extra accessories to make it work. Hell people can get away with a 20 pack of AA batteries if they want to from the supermarket.It... Just... Works... for everyone, you don't have to contrive scenarios.

With move you have either got lots of tangling cables or lots of accessories to replace the tangling cables to go with lots of accessories. Its competely over the top complication! Remember the Wii is completely wireless, you don't need to plug/unplug ANYTHING for it to work. Sony failed at the one thing they should have copied on the Wii which is keeping things simple.

In one line if you can't be bothered reading that:

You don't have to make excuses for the Wii, you do for the Move.

Thats Ace.

ok, seeing that all arguments already have been stated let's discuss why Squil began this discussion ..

I think he has been brainwashed into it by this video:

Battery, Battery, Battery :)

Blankets are ok, but they slip and slide.

And when you want to reach for something, they're trapped inside!

Pressing those buttons, and recharging those controllers too much of a hassle?

Well then get [CENSORED]! Where you become the controller!

I think most here can't understand Squilliam, because they are gamers. However Sony tries to reach for new groups of people (non-gamers) with the move. And belive it or not some of these people don't know what an USB-Port is. But they know what a battery or a rechargeable battery is. Because batteries are already established. The voltaic pile, which is the first electric battery, was invented in 1800.

if you are charging your move controllers, you probably aren't using the eye, so you can just unplug it.

Not true

When you have very long gaming sessions, you often need to have some on charge while using others, or at least that's what I've found

I'm not exactly sure what you are saying isn't true?  I mean if you're playing for 20 hours straight, then sure you can just plug in your spare controllers.  But in most cases it's easier to simply use a hub and not worry about scheduling your play time around charging.

As for the eye, I guess if you're playing with multiple move controllers, and are playing for so long that you need to have spares, then you can't unplug it.  But that just brings me back to my point that a hub is easier.  Nobody seems to complain about needing either spare batteries or a charging station for their Wii/360.

Sorry, that was pretty vague, I'll admit. I deleted from the bit I quoted what I wasn't responding to - if I owned move I would likely want to charge and play at the same time. I like that with My Wii I can have 8 batteries in use and 4 on charge, if I needed more on charge I would buy a 2nd charger because they are free with batteries in Aus anyway

I'm not complaining about the move btw, I've stated already in this thread that it is a pretty silly complaint

Most PS3s these days have two front facing USB ports. If you add Move to the equation then automatically one USB port is permamently taken up by the camera which means you have one front facing USB port left for charging things and one port permamently taken up with a USB port snaking to the PS Eye camera. (correct me if im wrong here)

So now theres only one USB port which people have to charge 3 or more accessories depending on what you get unless you grab additional accessories, it reminds me of the little old lady who swallowed a fly if you get what I mean. A typical Move PS3 owner will likely have at minimum two Move wands, and two DS3s and they all have one charging point on the console. So to get around this Sony releases yet another accessory which is the Move charging station.

The average PS3 Move consumer will need a total of between 6 and 11 PS3 accessories depending on how many they buy and what games they like to play in order to charge and use Move for up to two players. That is, one Eyetoy, one or two chargers, two to four Move controllers, two DS3s and up to two nunchuck things. Thats pretty complicated especially when there are 4-8 independant controllers which each need attention in the form of charging on top of physically storing them out of the way when they aren't being used. Compare that to the Wiimote which requires just two charged controllers and has swappable AA batteries which can be charged in less than 1 hour, 15 minutes is possible too with the right charger.

So now some of Nintendos 'Stupidity' actually makes sense. Their sensor bar comes out of the back and you can get a wireless one if thats not practical. The nunchuck connects to the Wiimote because it means one less thing to take care of and the Wiimote uses AA batteries not because Nintendo is stupid but because most people are too lazy to plug things in after they have used them.

Im not trying to put a downer on the Move as a controller this is seperate from how good the thing is as an interface. Its a really good one in fact, but it seems that Sony didn't consider the practical side at the same time. The move system just seems over complicated and consumer unfriendly outside of a dedicated market. You have to be very dedicated and on top of things if you want to get the full experience shown at the Sony E3 conferrence. If you want to add 3D on top of every thing else and share it all with one other person you're going to need to keep two pairs of active shutter glasses charged at the same time! At minimum a 3D PS3 Move user will need around 8 accessories which require seperate charging!

this says hi and i have seen one which supports 4 ps move's for charging / end thread

Official charger

So Sony expects us to buy around 4 of those charges? No ty.

See underlined.

AA or AAA are the best. You won't have to worry about battery dying on you and having to replace the whole piece of hardware. You just throw away the batteries.

Assuming the hardware outlast the batteries, of course.
