Why did I hold back for so long, put me on the hype train as well, anywhere!

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

The new Nintendo Power arrived with lots of new info!!!

  • Link not be speaking in the game, but we will hear none of the other characters speak as well. And based on what producer Eiji Aonuma had to say to Nintendo Power, it is likely we will never hear voice acting in a Zelda game.

When asked about voice acting, Eiji Aonuma had this to say:

“Personally, I don’t want to have Link speak in the game. We haven’t had him talk at all up to this point. It’s part of the series’ history. It would just, to me, break the image of Link to have him speak.”

So that’s certainly a “no” on Link then. Under Aonuma’s guard, Link will never speak. He goes on to explain why we will likely never hear any other characters speak in any Zelda game:

“In terms of other characters, if Link never talks and everyone else in the game is chatting and whatnot, I also think that’s sort of an off mixture, so it’s not something that, to be honest, I’ve really thought I want to be superactive about or I’ve really pressed for. It just hasn’t come up to me personally.”

  • Voice acting aside, the new major item of news is that the Skyward Sword itself will be used as a treasure finder.

Mr. Aonuma said to Nintendo Power: “The sword itself has a treasure-seeking ability [...] I’d like people to look forward to imagining how we’re going to use the sword to do that.” That is certainly food for thought!

  • He also mentions that as this is a Legend of Zelda game, we will certainly see the Princess herself.

As for Ganon: “We don’t want to make any comments on that as of yet.” I personally think it’s safe to take that as a “yes.”

  • Many people assumed that the area seen in the demo was simply a demo area constructed solely for the demo and would not feature within the final game. Not so, according to Eiji Aonuma. This is actually one of the first bits of Hyrule that Link travels down to from Skyloft:

“It represents a very early stage where Link, for the first time, travels down to the realm below the clouds.”

Mr. Aonuma goes on to explain why, although that area will be in the final game, we shouldn’t take everything we saw in it as finalized:

“That being said, the giant skeleton that you fight when you go inside the tree, and the giant scorpion, aren’t in those locations within the game. We just put them there for the demo version.”

  • He also clarifies that while this area seems an awful lot like a dungeon, it is still considered a “field”.

Representing their new take on the dungeon/overworld structure that they have been mentioning in interviews for the better part of a year now.

  • Also, we should not take the eight item slots (as seen in the demo) as fact.

That HUD was built specifically for E3 and there may be more item slots than eight.

And finally, Link has the ability to travel between Hyrule and Skyloft, and this is not done via a Pegasus version of Epona. So what is Link’s method of transportation? Mr. Aonuma would not say.

thanks to ninten78 for telling me about the info, I'm also posting full interviwe scans later

...........................................................................................................................................

So pretty much:

-There won’t be any voice acting, nor for Link, nor for anyone

-Zelda will be back

-Ganondorf maybe

-The demo area will be in the final game, but changed

-that area is considered “field”

dang there are really neat stuff in here....

sweet scans, pretty sweet info, thanks for posting them

Interesting info, hopefully Epona makes an appearance, or maybe a new form of transport will innovate this game! I would be very cautious of that Giant Enemy Scorpion!
