Forums - General Discussion - Game reviewers everywhere showing support for GS reviewers.

http://kotaku.com/gaming/advertorials/1up-shows-support-for-gamespot-reviewers-328882.php

In the growing wake of the controversy surrounding GameSpot's alleged firing of editorial director Jeff Gerstmann comes a little bit of surprising solidarity.

A bunch of Ziff Davis staffers (including 1Up) made a banner to show their support for fellow game reviewers and marched it the two blocks to the GameSpot building on Friday. The banner, and impromptu march, shows that despite being competition, what may have happened at GameSpot could have wide-spread implications in the game publication industry.

We're also told that the Kane & Lynch user reviews on Gamespot have been, at least temporarily, disabled and there are rumors that people are canceling their Gamespot accounts "en masse."

I'm not sure how Gamespot is going to deal with all of this since I'm pretty sure they're not legally able to talk about why Gerstmann is no longer there. I'd assume that at some point Gerstmann might talk, but I'd guess right now he's trying to figure out what to do in the way of a job.

What about you? Do you work as a game reviewer? Have you been forced to rewrite a review due to advertising pressure? Feel free to email us at tips if you have or to editor. Remember, you can remain anonymous.

Recently everone has turned on gamespot in the past couple of weeks. And like montana demonstrated its site traffic is dropping to record lows. Now I understand why 1up is supporting them.

mM

yep GS is dying

This is good to see. The whole point of reviewing games is to review honestly. Making a review based or under the pressure of the gaming company is wrong and is a blatant lie that us the gamers are left open to. Gamers rely on reviews so that we can decide if our hard earn cash is worth buying the game or not. Good on Jeff for being a real gamer and gamer reviewer.

Of course 1UP is.

How does this apply to Gamespot, one of the most biased review sites?

anyone notice how at gamespot from over 10,000 users online it now is over 8,000.
wow thats a big drop

If Gamespot competitors are smart, they will turn this into a huge media blitz. 1up, ign, gamepro, etc. The more noise they make, the more gamespot will be hurt. This is almost unrecoverable on a pr level.

^i think thats what they are trying to do,or maybe they are trying to help them

Dude make some sense.  Gamespot as a whole is a great site and I believe they are quite fair. Jeff went against the bias flow in this case, and that did not wash well with Eidos or Cnet. I respect what he did.

This can make one wonder how many sites change their reviews for advertising funding or other payments from companies to get that better review.  What it means is alot of what we rely on, may not hold as an honest review, as it is based on making a more appealing review for game sales.  So my  previous post applies to Gamespot and other sites in general.

I'm sure it's more than GS that feels this.  It's good to see the competetion support their industry members.  This could get bigger than it is now.  Maybe journalist will speak up about how this is happening everywhere.  i.e. I always hear talk how MS paid for that review etc
