Android is like the anti-PSP. Low cost games with no licensing fees. That exact opposite of the current PSP.

just like the partnership is with sony and Google

with Google TV's

sony's making TV's with Intel processor's in them and google tv preinstalled.

that like the exact opposite of the network enable BRAVIA enabled TV's

But they aren't selling PS3 software on Google TVs and besides GoogleTV is still an untested concept. It could be great or it could be the next WebTV. The PS3 isn't turning into a GoogleTV any time soon.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

I still expect a PSphone..

but the iphone really does everything so idk what sony can do..?

They are pushing the PSP now though with the STEP UR GAME UP campaign, which attacks the iphone, so idk

Thing is, if Nintendo is first out of the gate with the 3DS, which seems entirely likely right now, then surely the multiplats will go there first. Then when Sony's next handheld is released most people will already have the SW so it won't sell very well. Obviously there will be Sony loyalists that will hold out for the PSP2 or whatever it is called SW and people who for whatever reason won't buy a Nintendo console. Just how big this market is though, is probably very much up for debate.

which is why I think sony's going to the Smart phone market with the PSP..

no PSP 2 it would be in my Opinion a waste of Money..the X10 ANDROID OS based phone with Playstation function of remote play already was :

Xperia X10 Quickly Becomes NTT DoCoMo’s Top-Selling Smartphone

sony get's a partnership with Google for Google TV.

PSP/Android phone that has PSN access to gain Sony playstation PSP game's "only on SE android phone's:

a) seperates their smartphone from the rest

b) all existing PSP's are still supported on the PSN for game's

c) no loss leader for PSP's just keep what you already have

d) access to the android market place many indi developer's and some big publisher's are making content for Android phone's

a psp/android would just be a phone. personally i do not like games on my phone because they suck and kill the battery life. if sony made a psp/android it would be competing with other cell phones not the 3ds. it could be the next n-gage

I'm not sure if Scrap is the right mentality. Saying they should scrap the PSP2 is giving up without trying.

I think we should discuss what's required for the PSP2 to be a success?

Right now the two MAJOR competitors for a portable SONY gaming device are Iphone (smart phones) and 3DS.

Apple believes in creating products which challenges its users but are simple to use while being advanced technogically.

Nintendo believes in making products which are accessible and enjoyable for the mass market.

SONY values high end products for gamers. According to this SONY would intendt to design a PSP to have better performance than it's competition.

This puts SONY in a tough spot as their beliefs do not necessarily translate into amazing sales.

Maybe PSP2 has to be a 3D phone in order to compete.

SONY could try to push PSN as a type of App store.

SONY could brand the PSP2 as the phone for 'gamers'

They currently have a arrangement with Google which means it could also have access to an Android OS and the Android App store.

They could also provide a way for PS3 games to be played on the PSP2 on the GO. I.E. access to media stored on your PS3. They almost already have this right now but it's buggy.

3rd and 1st party support is a baseline.

And SONY has to avoid making a proprietary format.

SONY probably needs to do a few other things, the least of which is know how to market their products properly =P

Android PSP is absolutely ridiculous.

Android is a totally open platform. It is open source. You think they're going to outsource development of their OS, so that they can have the least secure platform in existance? If you think PSP piracy is bad, wait til you haven't seen PSP Android.

Absolutely, 100% antithetical to Sony's approach.

you do know the xperia 10 is an android Device. sony has been working with Android for the past couple of year's.

"Absolutely, 100% antithetical to Sony's approacHh"

yea so is:

google TV but yest Sony is now on board

sony smartphone's ANDROID os

AS A MATTER OF FACT:

But it’s UXP that forms the heart of these phones’ experience. Sony Ericsson has been working on the UXP interface for more than two years, the company says.

“We have done extensive skinning of the Android platform. because we really wanted to make it a bespoke experience,” says George Arriola, head of user experience for Sony Ericcson.

Sony’s UXP interface attempts to do the same thing as rivals like Motorola’s MotoBLUR: namely, aggregate social networking feeds such as Facebook and Twitter into one stream, integrate that data with your phone address book and contacts, and personalize the multimedia experience.

“We took a very sophisticated PlayStation middleware and shrunk it to fit the Android OS,” says Arriola.

they do not have to.

that's not the goal!

you do know even google TV will work on all the console's..not just the PS3 hell even without Microsoft support or not or even nintendo's the box that LG for instance add's google tv to any existing TV. and it can control even the xbox360's dashboard, right from an IPhone or Android phone.

your right it's not known if it will make it but with many companies on board the Android OS being free many companies are already on board.

it's not a new concept like you just pointed out but it does have a very good chance to because many CE manuf. Who make the TV's can put the Android OS in the TV with very little cost.

Right now GoogleTV is vapor and until I have a chance to use it I will reserve judgement and it really has nothing to do with replacing the PSP with Android.

it's not vapor they already have demonstration's of it working.

just like sony working on a playstation middleware stack to work inside of the Android OS.

What purpose would it serve for Sony to keep releasing another PSP?

what an extra analog stick?

how many people would buy one if say sony prices it at $245.00?

very little, because many would say that's too high priced.

never mind sony in the PSPGo updated

the Mips processor in the Go over the slim

added solid state storage 8gb

come's with Bluetooth built in.

people want Sony devices cheap, but yet as their softwre sale's prove people are not buying their software on the PSP.

so invest more into their PSP platform and try to compete with Nintendo which the PSP's has been alway's been viewed as

"the console experience in the palm of your hand"

or move the PSP over to an area where atleast it can seperate itself from the other Smartphones by it's exclusive software.

by sony not releasing a PSP2 device at E3 is very smart, they keep what they have on the market sale what they can and move the PSP format over to a smartphone platform.

atleast there is less of a downside in doing that than there is sticking it out..what would happen if sony releases the PSP2 "ol no second analog stick" i am not going to buy that that's what many gamer's have stated over and over..or it's too high priced.

Altleast in the Smartphone market they could make profit on every phone sold and sell more software with no physical format needed to maintain except for the existing PSP's that are already in the market.

SONY will not drop the PSP2

I think that PSP's 10 year life cycle affected PSP2's release.

if SONY would have launched the PSP2 then PSP's life cycle would have ended in the next year or so and that wouldn't have gone together with SONY's 10 year cycle claims

So i think SONY will launch PSP2 next fall when PSP's life cycle is already at 7 years so PSP is able to complete the 10 year cycle

also till then 3DS smoke would have been settled and PS3 would also be doing pretty well

PSP2 wil easily have the following things

TWO analogs

allt the PS buttons and R2 AND L2.

Touch screen and 3D(only if good glassless 3D is developed by then, have not experienced 3DS so don't know)

AND it will have 3G and 4G and WIFI and some PHONE features

IT COULD HAVE MINI BLU-RAYS

will start at $249-299
