Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo has so much, why did they show so little?

Not enough time, that's why sony announced games beforehand.. I think nintendo's method was better though.. it kept suprising people and thats better

In my opinion apparently sony had too much time if they felt like they could show us the psps "awesome" new ad campaign and have kevin butler do stand up comedy.  That was time that could have been used to show games.

I gotta say Nintendo E3 conference was the best of any conference this year. It blew me away, but after the conference, Nintendo began announcing more content throughout the day. The list of 3DS titles kept growing with a new MarioKart, PilotWings, remakes of StarFox64 and OOT. Then theirs there's all the third party content.

The Legend Of Zelda:(space)Skyward Sword: sure I liked the live demo by Shigeru, but this was one of the worst presentations of a new Zelda game. I think back to TP and then back to Windwaker and further back to OoT. (< Runon sentence) Every time an epic trailer was shown and content not on the show floor was availible. (< What?) But Nintendo chose to only show us essentially the floor demo. No epic boss battles, no horse back riding, no other gameplay elements. Don't get me wrong, I loved seeing LOZ:SS, but it was by far the worst unvieling unveiling of a Zelda game in recent history. They could have shown us way much more!

3DS , their (Really? I thought we stopped making this mistake in 2nd grade.) was a total lack of info with the 3DS. Nintendo didn't comment at all on the consoles actual power (processing power), they didn't talk at all about release date or even vaguely hint that the console is coming in 2010 or 2011. Then the price point was also ignored. In the past Nintendo has almost always unvieled unveiled their price points and launch date's dates or at least launch period's periods at E3, yet there was absolutely no info on the 3DS's launch. Heck, Nintendo never even told us how many titles will be availible at launch (only one confirmed at the show; Kid Icarus:Uprising).

3DS games: when I saw Kid Icarus, I was extatic ecstatic, but I wanted to see more. I thought origionally originally, "I guess Nintendo has nothing else to show" that would have been sufficient. (< I don't even know what you're trying to say here.) Until, within hours, photo's photos of Mario Kart, PilotWings, Oot made their way to the internet. Soon, the list of titles blossomed to over twenty, and I wondered, "why didn't Nintendo show some of these titles at their conference?" Where was the MarioKart trailer, PilotWings trailer and trailers from third party titles? Nintendo could have shown way much more content for the 3DS during their conference.

Vitality Sensor: I was sorta dissapointed that the Vitality Sensor wasn't in Nintendo's conference. I really wanted to see what Nintendo had instore in store for it. Origionally Originally, I thought the product was cancelled, but soon after read an interview with a Nintendo employee saying Nintendo just didn't think it was right for the show. Didn't think it was right for the show? Come on, Nintendo could have shown the launch software and some of the third party content they talked about last year.

Now don't take it as me complaining about Nintendo's conference and their exhibits, but after seeing and hearing so much that Nintendo has unvieled unveiled, I can't help but wonder why Nintendo didn't actually use the full 2 hours. I counted it at what, an hour and a half? Why didn't they unviel unveil everything they've unvieled unveiled today at their press conference? It would have only made the conference that much better then than the competition.

Why did Nintendo show us so little?

Was that necessary, SimonSaysFYou?

OT: I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't think it was due to time pressure. In my opinion the continuation of their press conference on http://e3.nintendo.com/ with interviews and even more game announcements was an extreme clever idea.

Your right there, I watched awhile on the Nintendo site after Reggie said their would be more coverage there. I kept going back for updates every hour or so. I'm not sure what benefit it would be for Nintendo to get everyone to go on their website.

Unless it could have been like a poll. How many people were watching and die hard enough to go on the website and watch. Get an idea of how many die hard fans are out there watching their conference.

I also never thought of the 3DS hands on time. Someone suggested it may have been kept short so everyone could get hands on with the 3DS and that makes sense. Nintendo sure had a heck of alot to cram into such a short period it would have been amazing to see them cram all of the extra info in.

Your gonna fix all the grammer and speling mistake on the internet? Have funn wit that!

I personally thought it was a stroke of genuis to NOT reveal everything that Nintendo had.

Instead, while word was getting out about what Sony was saying at its conference, so too was word getting about Nintendo's plans for the 3DS.

In other words, leave people wanting more ... and in this case Nintendo did.

Well, Miymoto commented on Pikmin 3 and said they are working on it but he didn't want to show it because it would get overshadowed. Had they shown VS it would have been cool for 5 minutes before they started talking about 3DS. Then VS would've been forgotten.

Look at it this way: Nintendo might have a conference in fall to show stuff that wasn't big enough for E3; VS, The Last Story, XenoBlade etc.

I agree that the Zelda reveal was disappointing. It seems work has only just began on the graphics of the game, and they wanted people to focus entirely on the controls at this E3. It seems they've taken great pains to develop the controls from the ground up for this game, and want to get plenty of reaction in case they need to change something. I imagine in regards to the overall design of the game-story, structure etc-they're very confident about what they've got, and they don't see any point in revealing that just yet. I am disappointed we haven't heard any news about big changes to the game structure-dungeon/overworld relation and pacing, orchestrated music/voice acting etc. But we do know the controls are almost completely in place and that they do work well. We're also very keen to know more-which is exactly what Nintendo want. We need to be interested in their products to have any intention of buying them.

With regards to 3DS, it's all about that 3D magic. Impressive as that Kid Icarus trailer was, none of us can really understand just how amazing 3DS is until we see it in the flesh. Nintendo emphasised this at E3. It excited the journalists, who've then reported that the device works brilliantly. Now the buzz is spreading-and more and more people will want to experience it for themselves. The only way to find out what 3DS is all about is to see it yourself. This is a concerted effort by Nintendo to drum up hype-and it's working spectacularly.

With regards to  3DS software, the most important thing Nintendo needed to do was establish that 3rd parties were onboard and that the 3D effect works. As I said earlier, they can't establish the 3D effect without hands on impressions, and they are all over the net now. There's also been a sad trend of third parties being negative about Nintendo and their systems recently, and a montage of developers from high profile companies praising 3DS was nothing short of spectacular. Iwata was genuinely grateful for their support, and it's one of the big talking points about 3DS-3rd parties are on board, and they are on board in a big way.

As for vitality sensor, is E3 really the time for it? Previous peripherals and Wii series titles have not gone down well at all at E3. Nintendo can have a separate press conference detailing the vitality sensor and the news will still be big. As shown with Kinect,  Wii Music, Wii Fit and even Wii Sports Resort, E3 is still not the right place to reveal mass market casual properties and get good press. Nintendo don't want vitality sensor to be dismissed by the gaming media as it was last year, nor do they want 3DS to overshadow it. When they're ready, Nintendo will show it and accompanying software.

On a personal note, I loved the conference but was disappointed by the lack of Xenoblade and Last Story. But your original post highlights what was so good about Nintendo's show-they had amazing products, and we want more. Not just more products, but more about what Nintendo have already unveiled. They've created enormously high levels of anticipation for 3DS and their software, and they did that by giving us information, but without overloading us. In the aftermath of E3, many question marks remain about Nintendo's future products, and anticipation is high. We'll have to wait for answers, and keep track of Nintendo in order to do so.

It's a masterful display by Nintendo, really. They've captured plenty of interest, and they aren't going to let go of that easily.

hell yea they got some work to do.
