Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Did Nintendo just Dreamcast the PSP2?

....it's like the Wii, I hear, in that anyone who plays it shits themselves with excitement at first, so it's got that going for it. It really hooks you with the 3D, and I'm willing to bet it will keep you with the games.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

assuming it does exist, I always believe it's never a good idea to write off something even before it's been released.

Maybe so, but if Sony are so clueless as to think that expensive ass 3D (with dork glasses) and a Wiimote are going to significantly expand the PS3 user base, we can make a special exception in this case.

Have you checked out the http://www.msn.com page lately?  It seems that Microsoft certainly thinks Sony did the right things at E3 this year because Sony's Sony Move and introduction to 3d gaming are the only E3 related products among their front page news items.

As anyone who watched their E3 presser should know, Microsoft are even more clueless about gaming than Sony.

I think a MS handheld is only a matter of time to be honest and if that comes, the maybe the "psp2" would be in for some serious hurt (combining MS handheld with the 3ds) but until then, in a 2 horse race, the psp2 would be hard(er) to kill.

I think the problem for the PSP2 is that when it comes it might already be obsolete. The 3ds will immediatly have the full support of the hardcore and the casuals. Plus this time around it will get the games which differiated the PSP from the DS. And the 3DS already has gamedevelopers behind it which never really supported the DS.

Personally, I think the only chance the PSP2 had was for Sony to come up with something compelling and release it close to the 3DS; primarily because the PSP2 will (probably) be treated with the same kind of scepticism as the Nintendo DS was, while the 3DS will be given far more support than the DS or PSP was.

Eventhough I firmly pin my colours to the Sony flag, I've always supported Nintendo and I seriously hope 3ds sells a shit load and does extremely well because unlike previous offerings, this in no way can be viewed as a "kiddy" console and especially with the lineup of games they are trying to push (MGS and Resident evil...nuff said).

The 3ds is gonna be awesome but damn shame I'm not too big on handhelds otherwise I would be tempted.

As for msn.com, one could argue that the reason why Move is there and not kinect or whatever is because Move happened today so it's fresher?

If sony were to release a psp2 tomorrow, it can't just really on the aged old "it has more powaaaa" arguement anymore, it now needs something extra special and unique as a selling point...good luck with that.

I was shocked there was no PSP2 announcement.   Fact is the PSP is quickly dying in NA and fading in Others.   Sony could have launched a PSP2 this fall and Nintendo could have still coasted on DS sales quite nicely for another year, or two.

But now it's the reverse, the DS which is still the top selling game system in all markets, is being replaced with this amazing piece of tech with a ton of support, casual and core, even if much is ports into 3D to begin with.   Nintendo is going from strength to strength and if Sony doesn't get an answer to 3DS out soon, it's going to lose whatever hold they had in the handheld market.    Should MH moves to 3DS... like MH3Dtri for example, PSP will even lose Japan.

Sony talked a good talk about PSP but it was already failing fast and 3DS will kill it completely and steal it's market.   Between Apple and Nintendo, Sony might be squeezed out of this marketplace if it doesn't act fast.

maybe they already bowed out and are just allowing the psp to come to a natural end, note; there was no yearly upgrade of the psp this time around...

So they've got some hardcore games.  But what happens if those hardcore games are said to be appearing on PSP2 (with stronger tech than PS3) and mini-360 next year with improved graphics?

And the PSP2 launches with brand new exclusive God of War, GTA, GT5, and Killzone games at launch while Mini-360 has new exclusive portable Halo, Fable, and Gears games available at their launch?

I really think the next handheld gen will be the most interesting one yet.

good point about exclusoves actually, never thought about that.

Though then again, it's not as if Nintendo doesn't have their own exclusives.

Mario and Mario Kart should count most threats with regards to sales.
