Nope.  I would get one if it had dual analog sticks, but having only one just reminds me of why I sold my PSP.

If developer support is particularly strong (and that looks to be the case), I'll consider it once I see some games that catch my eye.

No need in second analog stick. Dual layout is mostly used in first and third-person shooters - one to move, the other to look. On 3DS to look around in shooter game you just need... to look around (built-in motion sensor, gyro, camera - dozens of possibilites to do this) and 3D effect only adds to this. And on top of that there's still a touch screen for precise aiming. Not sure if I like the idea of shooter on handheld at all, but if you do - that's how it might work.

Does it have ds backwards compatability?

Yes

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

paper mario, starfox, resident evil, SMT Persona, Zelda and megal gear = HELL YES!

Put it this way I chose the psp over the ds and I have been happy with it and never felt the need to get a nintendo handheld.  After seeing the 3ds, its lineup of games and what it can do  I now want to buy my first nintendo handheld system and I don't care if the psp2 is ever announced.
