Doesnt the word slim imply that the console itself is ... slim ?

This new 360 is barely smaller than the last. a little bit shiny and now has wireless... wow./ end sarcasm.

I do not see 360 sales increasing over PS3 sales (once the fire sale is done on existing models) unless Microsoft will actually have a new 360 arcade sku for $150 in the future.

also, why dont we know for sure what is happening price wise?

How much is Natal... i mean Kinects ? Microsofts conference is over and we still dont know these things.

Sony will not drop the price this year (sans bundles/ pack ins) and they will continue to outsell the 360 every week imo.

Well that's funny, because the PS3 slim was barely smaller than the fat PS3 (which was easily the biggest, heaviest console of all time).

The reduction from 360 fat to slim looks in line with the size reduction of PS3 fat to slim (though of course, PS3 was much larger to start).

Just go to gamespot, theyre the ones with the story. Arcade is not being phased out. The names are though, there's no more Arcade or Elite technically, just different models of 360 distingushed by storage size.

Gamespot link confirming Slim Arcade here http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6265465/new-200-xbox-360-planned-elite-and-arcade-getting-50-price-cut

Anyways I think the new Slim completely means PS3 can never, ever overtake 360 in the USA. The math is just impossible now, considering this basically means 360 will win every remaining month of 2010 USA sales (They should win may easily based on PS3 shortages, June easily on price cuts to the old SKU's, the rest of the year on Slim momentum and Halo Reach). At that point 360 will be something like 8 million or more units ahead in USA, so PS3 would have to outsell by average of 200k a month for 40 months just to tie, sometime in 2014. Never going to happen.

Thanks for the link!!

paying $300 for a 360 slim isnt worth it,

paying $300 for a PS3 slim is worth it why, simple it has a built in blu ray player

It would not surprise me to see this new cheaper arcade 360 (or whatever it is going to be called) come out just in time for Kinect.

Right now the only difference between the PS3 and 360 is Blu-Ray and the price. Obviously that will sway some people who were thinking of getting a PS3 but the boost won't last for long. Deffinatly run out before the holidays.

So i would expect this new unit and price to happen just before holidays to coincide with Kinect and possibly a PS3 price cut.

As others have mentioned this does make it difficult for PS3 in US, it will never get those numbers back now. But in Europe it still leaves it up for grabs. I personally thought E3 might decide who wins europe but now it looks like it will still be undecided. The 360 has got a price cut to around £99-£119 here. That will shift some units. But it depends on What Sony do, if they price cut it will make things a lot more difficult to predict!

Most probably, there is no reason they couldn't have a slim arcade out right now, they've chosen not too for a reason.

I think Sony will be phasing out the 120GB and dropping the current 250GB and the 120Gb down to $250 and $299 respectively. Then they will relaunch the wireless N 250GB and 500GB at $299 and $350 respectively. For some reason i see M$ and Sony going head to head on motion and pricing this year, i dont see Sony being as conservative like they were a few years ago.

They said the new xbox is ready for kinect. So

Do you have to have a new xbox to use kinect or will there be some adaptor for the older ones?

I am guessing there will be some adapter that you will plug into the USB slot for the older consoles.

You'll get an additional power supply with kinect to connect to the older models. So yes, on the old models, Kinect requires additional power, and with the new one, it's just plugged into a special port in the back without any additional power needed.
