Forums - General Discussion - Is Lady Gaga already becoming irrelevant?

The music scene moves fast these days, and Lady Gaga who was "cutting edge"(at least to people with not much musical knowledge and a general lack of exposure to anything besides the last half-decade's mainstream pop) a few years ago is already starting to become irrelevant.

Why? The style that she "pioneered" i.e., mindless electronica with pop sensibilities overlaid with party-minded lyrics is already being widely aped--she's becoming the norm, not the avant garde, of the pop scene. Kesha, who's basically Lady Gaga 2.0 designed with the mainstream market more specifically targeted than ever, is just as popular as Gaga ever was, or is at least approaching it.

The biggest thing keeping her relevant is her complete devotion to endlessly remaking herself--always a new dress, new look, new ridiculous outfit, new outrageous video. The problem is that in this modern day of youtube celebrities and label-crafted stars, people have a shorter attention span for this sort of thing. Pretty soon it will just be same old, same old: she's expected to be constantly reinventing herself, incessantly remolding her image.

How can you reinvent your image and make it new when your image is remaking yourself and making it new? Get what I'm saying? There's nowhere left to go on the outrageous-scale, and people are rapidly getting desensitized to level she's at now.

Perhaps most significantly, record labels are increasingly being threatened with collapse--Thom Yorke, famed frontman of Radiohead, recently predicted that it's a matter of months, not years, before they fold. With "indie" talents increasingly finding exposure to the mainstream, there's a trickle-quickly-becoming-a-flood of new talent primed to catch the public's eye.

She's a one-trick pony, and that one trick is being improved upon and stolen from her by newer, up-and-coming artists. You can't make a name for a sophomore album by coming up out of nowhere and making a big splash--you have to maintain that popularity by doing something better, something more.

Other artists have already done that for Gaga. They've taken her formula and made it their own. She's going to be destroyed by the novelty-minded music scene that she's helped create.

i would say, as long as people feel the need to post their mind about something, no matter for what reason, then it isn't irrelevant.

And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

Do people just make threads to see if they can piss of leo-j? And couldn't this just be thrown in someone elses lady gaga thread instead of made into a whole post? I just don't see the point of this thread unless it were an article...

What makes something an article? Being published?

Comparing a talentless person like Kesha to Lady Gaga is just.....not right.

I really don't think she's going anywhere.  People are still interested in her and talking about her.  Hit google and type in artists' names.

Lady Gaga - 120,000,000

Britney Spears - 49,500,000

Beyonce - 44,300,000

Justin Bieber - 58,000,000

Kesha - 12,800,000

If anything, Kesha is the one who is going to fade away soon enough.

Other artists have already done that for Gaga. They've taken her formula and made it their own. She's going to be destroyed by the novelty-minded music scene that she's helped create.

Paragraph by paragraph.

1.)     This isn't even remotely close to accurate.  How is she becoming irrelevant already?   She has pumped out hit after hit.  She has a new hit recently released that will be topping the charts soon enough.  Lady Gaga isn't cutting edge but she is the closest thing to Madonna that I've personally ever seen.    It's not even her singing talent or anything of the sort.  It's the whole package.  She knows how to market herself,  she is constantly re-inventing herself.    The fact that you've made this thread proves how relevant she constantly makes herself.

2.)   Ke$ha isn't close to Lady Gaga status.  Her songs are annoying, she can't sing, she can't dance, she has no true artistic style.  Mark my words, Ke$ha will be gone in a few years.  She has really no talent whatsoever.

3.)  You have no proof and no way of verifying this.  Lady Gaga has captivated people since she entered the scene.  Love her or hate her, she has done that.  I don't see it stopping anytime soon.  Whether she has a baby penis or not or if she is this or that, people have found themselves captivated by her songs, her demeanor, her style, her whole package.

4.)  There is plenty of places to go on the outrageous scale.  She has learned very quickly that showing off her breasts or certain parts of skin exclusively isn't enough anymore.  It's about being creative.  There is always room for creativity and pushing conventional boundaries.  In her latest song 'Alejandro'  she is pushing the anti-gay sentiment and openly supporting a pro-gay attitude.  (Controversial in todays society).

5.)  One trick Pony? Yet Kesha has already achieved close to Gaga success?

Released on August 19, 2008, her debut album, The Fame, reached number one in the UK, Canada, Austria, Germany and Ireland, and reached the top-ten in numerous countries worldwide; in the United States, it peaked at two on the Billboard 200 chart and topped Billboard's Dance/Electronic Albums chart. Its first two singles, "Just Dance" and "Poker Face", co-written and co-produced with RedOne, became international number-one hits, topping the Billboard Hot 100Grammy AwardBest Electronic/Dance Album and Best Dance Recording in the United States as well as the charts of other countries. The album later earned a total of six nominations and won awards for

In some countries the album charted together with The Fame. In other countries – such as the United States, Canada and Japan – it charted as a separate album. It has reached the top of the charts in Australia, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Poland and the United Kingdom, while reaching the top ten in other major markets. "Bad Romance" was released as the album's first single, topping the Canadian, United Kingdom and Irish charts, while reaching number two in Australia, United States and Sweden. Further singles released were "Telephone" and "Alejandro", both reached the top-ten in the United States

6.)  I dislike pop as much as anyone, but you seem pretty biased in your approach.  Just because it's novelty minded (In your opinion) doesn't mean that someone cannot captivate it or steal the show for many, many years to come.  Michael Jackson was very much a polarizing figure in a variety of ways.   Ironic, that this is the same man who took quite fondly to Lady Gaga and intrigued him tremendously.   Lady Gaga might never become a Madonna-esque icon, but she certainly has and will continue to last longer than one hit wonders like Ke$ha and others.

another Lady Gaga thread? last I heard u needed talent to be this famous...

Lady Gaga is going nowhere, she will be relevant for quite awhile I think.   Hopefully it is Kesha that becomes irrelevant,  I mean who listens to that garbage.

All this Lady Gaga hate, but nothing about Justin Bieber? Why are there no threads mocking Bieber, I officially have lost all faith in humanity.
