Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 a success as a lead platform - Mikami

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=250595

Choosing to lead on PlayStation 3 for the development of Vanquish has been "a success," says superstar designer, Shinji Mikami.

Speaking to CVG recently, the Platinum Games man said his team had no choice but to lead on Sony's platform after the bodged PS3 version of Bayonetta, and the move's turned out to be the right decision.

"I think that making the PS3 the lead platform during development was a success for us," Mikami told CVG. "At the start, we didn't have PS3 production experience, so I think that this was really the only choice we had."

Earlier this year the Resident Evil creator explained the decision, stating: "The team know less about making games for PS3 than Xbox 360, so we thought the sensible thing to do was to make the game on PS3 first then move it over to Xbox.

"If we can get Vanquish to a certain standard on PS3, we can make Xbox the same," he said.

Leading on PS3 has worked in the past of course, and you only have to look at flawless PS3 and 360 versions of Burnout Paradise to see it. Taking note,Rockstar?

If only because it's the spiritual successor to Resident Evil 4, Mikami's Vanquish is very promising indeed. See the game in action via the firstVanquish gameplay footage.

Thats good to know, though I thought Bayonetta for PS3 was patched and it was made a bit better ?

Translation:  The 360 can replicate anything the PS3 can do but the PS3 can't replicate everything the 360 can do.

-I'm just fuckin' with ya!

I knew someone would say something similiar to that dlewis :p

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Whats unfortunate is that some people actually believe that, when the real deal is that devs are more comfortable developing on 360 than PS3, so they can make the 360 version look nearly identical to the lead PS3 version.

But I liked Bayonetta on PS3!

Tease.

True.  Certain things have to be considered when making a game multi-plat.  Just because the PS3 is the lead platform doesn't mean that they're going to try to use 100% of the PS3's power.

That didn't lead on PS3.

And at least Sony helped out a bit with fixes after the choices made by the devs f***ed things up.  Thanks Sony!!

I liked FFXIII on PS3... just wish it had released a year earlier like it should have!

Note I would never have written this, but hell, if Squilliam can semi-troll, I can respond, yeah?

What troll? I just said that it didn't matter to me. I played the unpatched version as I hate PSNs slow speeds and the unreliable wireless.
