breaking news: TVs / Videogames / Computers are bad for the eyes and always have been

Around the Network

@theprof00

interesting. thanks. :)

I have slight nearsightedness and use corrective lenses. I don't wear my glasses most of the time, however while driving I do wear them to read road signs. I can watch normal 2d movies in the theater without my lenses, with only a slight loss in detail. However watching 3d movies witout corrective lenses and the 3d glasses is blurry and almost painful. I can definitely attest that the 3d technology can induce an unpleasant experience for some people with less than perfect vision.

Anyone can guess. It takes no effort to throw out lots of predictions and have some of them be correct. You are not and wiser or better for having your guesses be right. Even a blind man can hit the bullseye.

no, 3d television uses the exact same processes our eyes use to see depth. There is no difference between looking at a 3d display and looking at something IRL

This is pretty much my feeling.

I would say that if lawyers weren't allowed to sue doctors for being wrong, none of them would be talking about "possible" side effects from 3D TV.   The ones saying "maybe" are saying it just to be safe, but at the moment the science suggests  it shouldn't be a problem.

No way to be absolutely certain though until we got get some decent longer term studies.

I don't see many 3D vision PC gamers complaining and we spend many many hours in front of 3D content (basically 90% of PC games are compatible and work really well)

However the article does have a point, there is a slight adaptation time for higher settings of depth (cinema should be set with a moderate depth). On 3D vision, there is a depth wheel.... you can't play on higher levels at first cause you just get crosseyed, but once you're used to it, then you can increase depth.

Also the "like a new pair of glasses" part is probably correct, it does make you addapt your vision.

Games have the adventage however that the depth is not necessarely out of focus... so the discomfort might be lessened.

On a side note... coments on the 3DS are absurd... that 3D does not make your eyes work at all... (provided it is indeed the polarized screen tech they will use =) ).
