Forums - Nintendo Discussion - 3DS a very powerful, capable handheld.

A PSP one you say? Interesting.

No, Wind Waker isn't my favorite game of all time - I don't really have one. It's one of my favorites, though, in the upper echelon of games that I have really enjoyed.

Can't wait for E3!!!!! I've never watched it on my computer before, I always watched it on TV, I'm a little worried about how the quality of the stream will be.

Lucky you, I have to be up at 2AM every year to watch an internet stream :P

You should move to America. It's awesome.

IMO that's a bit debatable.

But I hope your dreams don't turn out to be wothing and the 3DS dominates :D

^click the license to level it up! Please, and thanks in advance!

3ds is going to cost loads if this is true:(...

I'm not sure I understand your reasoning. N64 tech was not as old in 2004 as Gamecube tech is now; why would the latter be more expensive than the former in their respective timeframes?

no having GC like graphics stero3d will be expensive in a small handheld system, it is the stereo3d which will make it expensive, but saying that psp2 aint gonna be cheap either so don't worry, I am still not decided which one to buy yet...

it's the future of handheld

If Retro Studios are making a Metroid prime 3D on 3DS plus Nintendo are porting Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker, 3DS will be the best bet1

E3 will not answer anything.  Nintendo will not give performance info.  The games will be ambiguous with nothing that will stretch the system.  The fanbots will claim it is  as powerful as a HD console, and others will be disagreeing with no hard data to back it up.

I'm not sure I really agree ...

Nintendo will probably not give benchmarks or specs on the CPU or GPU of their system at E3, but they are very likely going to describe the screens they’re using. It is plausible that both screens are going to be (roughly) 480p or better, and I think it is safe to anticipate that it will be able to produce Gamecube or Wii level graphics, which would be a fairly good indication that the system was more powerful than the Wii. If the unexpected happens and the screens are higher resolution it could indicate that the system was approaching the performance of the HD consoles.

With that said, I really wouldn't anticipate a handheld producing games that looked like HD console games even if it was dramatically more powerful than these systems; and the primary reasons are that the sales of (most) handheld games could never recover the development cost, and most of the advanced lighting and texturing effects that are shown on a 60 inch television are difficult (impossible) to see on a 4 inch screen.

So lets say, right now, the DS cost 20 bucks to make .. we know Nintendo was making a KILLING off of the DS over the past 6 years And still the best selling sstem on the market, with ease..

Anyways do you think Nintendo is gonna stop selling DS's in the next 1-6 years?? I'd say NO.

A very capable 3DS will come out at $200-250 launch with Nintendo either breaking even or losing money.

In order to keep up with all the new technology and other handhelds (Apple) Nintendo will have to take a little cut in the money making with the  3DS, while keeping the best selling system ever (The DS) around to cover for the loss of money or lack of money they will make with 3DS in its first year on the market.

I am WEEzY. You can suck my Nintendo loving BALLS!

That sounds like a totally great business move. That will make DS sales sky rocket untill it reaches 150 million units in 1 fiscal year worldwide while still selling!! They can sell DSes untill the 3DS becomes mainstream and the fad and craze about playing 3D games without glasses becomes ridiculous they can top the current DS sales worldwide making it another huge hit by Nintendo! Gotta love Ninty!
