Forums - Sony Discussion - SCEE: PSPGo was introduced to learn about consumers

Welll so ... it looks like physical media is going to stay for a little longer.

Speaking to games business site MCV, Sony Europe's president said that while the PSPgo wasn't a huge success story in terms of sales, it taught the company a lot about what the average gamer wants.

SCEE president and CEO Andrew House said, "It was introduced in a mature lifecycle to learn more about what the consumer wanted and we’ve definitely learnt a lot.

"We were getting signals from consumers that this was the kind of device that they wanted," says House, referring to a completely digital download system, entirely reliant on games bought off the PlayStation Store.

"But we need to recognise that consumers like their packaged media library." Retailers weren't particularly ecstatic about Sony's digital only device either

Good I hope SONY learns from this failed experiment.

This pretty much kinda confirm a PSP2 won't be download only!

However, its high price I'm sure had a lot to do with it as well.

It's not a failed experiment. Sony created it to get results, and results they got. It may not have been a big success in terms, but as a test of what consumers want, it got them what they wanted.

oh boy i am glad i never bought a pspgo now, i was wanting one when it first came out, but seriously it received poor support, sony needs to put up more psp games available for download next time they even think about going DD only.

hopefully this means either umd or maybe mini-blue-ray for psp2:):) but the latter will cost a fortune

it's the future of handheld

Yeah they got results

I refused to consider PSP GO a failure till it was outsold by PS2 every week in Japan, I consider this a failed experiment for SONY now and yes they are the results SONY got, so in the end it will help them.....if they learn from it.

sole reason it  was expensive, and they leave psp3000 along it.

they didnt expect a huge success they would have to get back the money they spend in R&D
